Worked great, no issues. I tried GE-Proton7-20 before the stock Proton versions, so I don't know how well those work.

"protontricks 261550 --force dotnet45" and "protontricks 261550 dotnet472", after switching to Proton-6.18-GE-2 ... need something newer than Steam's 6.3 version to get past install issues in dotnet45. This seems commonly recommended for making saving faster, and probably for various mods.
A lot of mods seem to work, at least once dotnet472 is installed (didn't try mods without it). However, I can't find a good mod manager... I'm doing manual installs, and I use BUTRLoader to help with load ordering.
My current mod list, all appear to work but I have not tried changing any of their settings away from their defaults (Kaoses Tweaks especially has a lot of options).

Switch in-game renderer from DirectX11 to Vulkan for better performance
My system gets ~150fps on a new save stock (Proton 6.3-8, just set FPS in game to "no limit"). Changing nothing except switching to GE-Proton7-20 bumps that up to 250fps.
On another system, this same single change took it from usually 50-60fps (capped @ 60) with frequent drops down to <15fps that made it basically unplayable at 1024x768 with all settings lowest, to being very playable with only minimal drops at 1680x1050.... and I suspect could do even better.
I recommend keeping it limited at 60fps or using vsync. If you let it go higher, it actually uses more CPU to do it.
