Same experience as on windows
There's really no reason to hesitate, it works fine
Flawless
If I'm honest, I did have to check this wasn't a native game.
This game is as good as native, although sometimes on launch you will get a black screen, pretty randomly.
-sdlaudiodriver pipewire
It requires the -sdlaudiodriver pipewire launch option, or at least did on launch day. Try it out yourself, it may be fixed when you read this
I got a few artifacts with grenades on launch day, a really nice looking purple, quite enjoyable
The sound issue with pipewire is just a silly little bug. Other than that, it's probably the best native port for a modern game I've ever played.
As good as native, maybe even better than a lot of native source games
maybe the odd miniscule bug, like a missing animation on an npc, but unless you look for it you won't notice a thing
As native
Coming from F1 2021, the performance is actually superior in this title. It's probably just optimisations from Codemasters, but the system requirements have increased compared to 2021. Your mileage may vary, I guess, or proton is just working better with this title.
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command%
When using normal Proton 9 or 10, the keyboard shortcuts don't work correctly. If you are on Nvidia or X11, this can be solved by going back to Proton 8. If on AMD, I have found success with the new wayland driver with Proton-GE, although the Proton 8 fix also works if you don't want to try this new driver out.
If you want to mod the game, you'll find the game files for this at : ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2252570/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2024
It will be the same steps as windows after that
Proton-7.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-7.1-GE-2 https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases (with install instructions)
A few crashes, but it's probably just the game itself.
The latest febuary patch made it possible to use the non-chromium beta. you can now remove that outdated lua menu and use the dupes & saves menu again!
The Hammer editor in this game will have serious issues on the latest proton. Add the hammer.exe in the game files bin folder as a non-steam game, then select proton 4.xx, and the experience will be fine.
Same for Hammer++, which does have a crash in its options menu though.
Practically flawless
Not sure if this is bad programming, or a proton issue
Completely random, and occasionnal crashes
I did have relatively low performance (60-70fps). But let's be honest, it's really not an issue in this game. The only major problem is the random crashes I got maybe once every 2 hours
It's as good as native
absolutely flawless, and no tinkering required
As good as native
It's as good as native, sometimes you will get a weird bug on launch, same as windows
absolutely flawless
Works as well as synergy can, apart from audio
All the music in the game was missing on native for me
On native, synergy has no music. On proton, I had problems connecting through the server browser, but was able to use the connect command in the developper console.
Trackmania nations forever fails to start on my machine.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
A lot of compatibility issues exist on windows as well. This game has buge compatibility issues on both platforms. If 5.xx doesn't work for you with these launch options, try proton 4.xx, it has no audio but sometimes works better. thirdly, lutris.net offers a great install script, if everything else fails, but you won't have it on steam.
Alt-Tab can rarely cause fps issues, nothing major
Openplanet works, everything works fine, as long as you force the latest proton experimental(this shouldn't be necessary in a week or so).
Proton-GE 6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton GE 6.21
Alt-Tab stops you from interacting with the window
I needed Proton-GE to launch the game. You can install it here ( instructions included for native/flatpak ) https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom#installation
