Installed d3dcompiler_47
dll and liberation
font
Here are the steps I followed to work around the EA Desktop bugs and make the game run well:
- Try to run the game once, it will install EA Desktop but crash when trying to load it
- Use protontricks to install the
d3dcompiler_47
windows component - Use protontricks to install the
liberation
font - Delete the
IGO32.dll
andIGO64.dll
files in~/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/1222700/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/EA Desktop
in order to disable the EA Desktop in-game overlay - Follow the steps in this report to add the
OPENSSL_ia32cap
environmental variable: https://www.protondb.com/app/1222700#BO2wojWZ9b
After doing all of that, the game should run flawlessly. At least until the next EA Desktop update breaks everything again.
Slight stuttering at the beginning. The game is not well optimized due to it being more of a tech demo, but that is unrelated to proton.
5.4-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
It worked perfectly for me with Proton-5.4-GE-1 and mf-install
__GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=0 %command%
The game stutters every 2 seconds, although this appears to be the case on windows as well
If you have __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS on, the game fails to start up. The FMVs also do not work without GE Proton.
There was stuttering when taking certain actions suck as hitting an enemy with the launch ability
6.9-GE-3 GloriousEggroll
Used Proton-6.9-GE-3
The game is horribly optimized and buggy on Windows. It does not seem to run any worse on Linux.
Use the dxvk async patch from https://github.com/Sporif/dxvk-async
Using the dxvk async patch from https://github.com/Sporif/dxvk-async removes virtually all of the stutter and makes it match native performance near identically. It still works without the patch, but it stutters a lot when moving around with vanilla dxvk.
It used to be able to load without EAC just for the main single-player campaign. That no longer works. Now it just does not load at all.
There was some stuttering, but it is unclear if this is the same stuttering that appears on Windows
Proton-6.19-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
The game runs fine in windowed mode, but if you try to launch in fullscreen, it just hangs without displaying anything
The game crashes for me immediately after I attempt to log in to my Xbox Live account
Crashes once in a while, but this seems to be an issue on Windows as well
5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
I used GloriousEggrolls's Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST to play, and it worked perfectly
Massive stuttering when moving or interacting with anything. Staying in one spot and looking around is fine, but it either stutters or freezes for 10+ seconds very often when walking or interacting.
