Voice recognition seems borked, otherwise runs perfectly
The transmitter, which uses Voice Recognition, didn't recognize my inputs. In-game voice however works perfectly.
Would work fine - suffers from borked login screen.
Logging in to Microsoft services, which is mandatory to play in multiplayer, is almost impossible - the screens are either entirely dark gray or white and blank. When mousing over the blank area, you can notice that the login screen is being "displayed" somehow, as your cursor changes to a text input and a click cursor on areas that are consistent with the login screens on Windows. Suggested protontricks and using older versions of Proton did not resolve this issue.
I would easily bump this to a recommended rating if the mandatory XBox login wasn't so painful.
Couldn't get it to work, but likely someone smarter than me might be able to.
Installed vcrun2019 as game exited complaining about it missing before without it. then mdx to attempt to fix directx12 issues - game now fails to start silently.
Running proton experimental and several winetricks/protontricks, I was able to make some progress on starting the game, but it always would crash or exit with an error before it would be playable.
First, the game would not exit with an error message, complaining about missing a C++ runtime. After installing said runtime (vcrun2019) with protontricks, the error has changed to "Failed to initialize DirectX 12."
I have made some attempts bypassing this, however, none have properly worked. Assuming DirectX to not work because of missing modification, I've installed mdx through protontricks aswell. This causes the game to still crash with the same error.
Adding the otherwise common PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% launch option just makes the game not launch, even though it's still counted as running in Steam. It has to be stopped through Steam, too - doesn't show up in the process list as far as I can tell.
Additionally, using protontricks, I changed the Windows environment it was supposed to simulate to Windows 10. That finally got me to flash a window that was likely the game window - unfortunately, that window crashes almost immediately.
Nonfunctional voice chat, joining existing lobbies impossible.
"Banjo-Kazooie" graphics, or rather islands not loading in for quite a while and instead showing way simpler placeholder islands when you approach them have been significantly more common, especially when approaching larger or more complex islands.
Game runs easily at capped 140 frames while running on Windows, while running at 60 or less using Proton
Voice chat is completely borked, as has been reported before
When attempting to join a crew/lobby that has already started, the loading screen will be stuck on "Locating fresh supplies" for about half a minute before logging you out with Daisybeard. This issue is known in the community, and the proposed fix of setting LC_ALL=en_GB.UTF-8 steam unfortunately did not solve my issues.
If you are the host of the lobby or load into the server first, others can (usually) join your lobby just fine.
Works like a charm!
The only downside I could imagine you would get from this is that the stickers you export don't actually show up on your Linux desktop, but in the Desktop folder of your Wine prefix. The game does offer a "Show folder" button, which then opens the Wine Filepicker - so I guess you would at least notice.
What I ended up doing was adding a little symlink to [...]/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2303350/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Desktop/StickyBusinessPrints - that's where you would find it yourself.
