The game runs pretty good out of the box.
Had one or two minor lagspikes on Bog Business, and I don't know if it was the game or my machine. Otherwise, I didn't notice any lag.
My test run was playing through the first five levels + NA & TL, not including CSHQ.
My test run was playing through the first five levels + NA & TL, not including CSHQ. I have installed all required Proton-GE dependencies according to the installation guide: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom#installation
This game ran great with Proton 7.0 GE. Played through Prologue and Coldridge just fine, unrelated issues detailed below.
7.0rc6-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
My launch options: gamescope -W 3840 -H 2160 -f --
(Fullscreen, for properly working FSR) env WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=2
(enable AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution on Proton-GE) mangohud
(Onscreen stats, similar to RivaTuner Statistics Server's overlay) obs-vkcapture
(Vulkan game capture plugin for OBS) gamemoderun
(Performance optimizations) %command%
. Additionally, I have made INI tweaks so the game's framerate smoothing bounds are between 59 FPS and 61 FPS, because I have a 60 Hz monitor.
Other things of note: a) Proton 6.3-8 gives me an odd issue in the menus where my mouse doesn't move correctly unless I hold down LMB. The menu buttons themselves aren't sensitive to that so this is basically not much of an issue. b) For whatever reason, the game's graphics are broken badly on Proton 7.1-GE-1 and 7.1-GE-2. Here's a video. c) On my system there's a bug with Gamescope that I am affected by, requiring periodic game restarts. For me, this happens with any game running under Gamescope.
Game runs very smoothly; only SSAO does not work properly
SSAO does not work with Proton 6.3-8; turning it on covers the island in darkness. This issue is fixed in the latest version of Proton GE.
The multiplayer is the entire reason anyone plays the game, no one I know wants to sit in the Shooting Range and Tutorial forever.
Come on, Hi-Rez. Epic made it easy to enable Proton compatibility for EAC. You can do it, I know you can! Believe in yourself!
For whatever reason, Hi-Rez hasn't turned on Proton compatibility in EAC yet. Main menu, Training Range, and Tutorial only.
7.0rc6-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
The game seems to run flawlessly in the offline modes, champion selection, and the few seconds of Siege Training I was able to play before getting kicked. Come on, what's the holdup?
Launcher starts and login works without problem, but cannot connect to a server on Proton 6.3-8
"Failed to connect to server: The type initializer for 'System.Security.Cryptography.CngKeyLite' threw an exception."
SS14 has native launchers for download on its website that probably work way better. I just tried this out of curiosity's sake.
No launcher with Proton 7.0rc6-GE-1. Just use the native Linux build (no compatibility tool). You'll have a much easier time.
Render unto Windows what is Windows's, and to Linux what is Linux's.
