Disabled Steam Overlay and lowered the graphics settings inside the game (too high for my hardware)
Slower performance than Windows. However, the game is very heavy for this hardware, even on Windows.
Before you start, make sure to disable the Steam Overlay in the game properties.
In the first launch, Steam will configure the game. When it finishes, click to stop, and then start again.
In the second launch, Steam will install Uplay. Repeat the stop and play.
In the third launch, Uplay will update into Ubisoft Connect and will ask your credentials. Proceed the login. After, repeat the stop and play.
In the fourth launch, it will launch the game. Enjoy!!!
Don't panic if you need some more attempts until the game runs. Once you be able to start playing, it will always work.
(In my opinion, this integration between Steam and Ubisoft Connect needs to be more polished. But so far, it works.)
Steam launch parameters:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
Installed Protontricks using this guide: https://simpler-website.pages.dev/html/2021/1/protontricks#debian-and-ubuntu-based-linux-distros
.
In my case, Linux Mint:
sudo apt install -y python3-pip python3-setuptools python3-venv
python3 -m pip install --user pipx`
python3 -m pipx ensurepath`
.
Close and reopen the terminal again. Install protontricks using this command:
pipx install protontricks
.
Then, after the install, I ran these commands (based on the suggestions of the user smasonius):
protontricks 35140 mdx d3dx9 d3dcompiler_43 win10
protontricks 35140 physx
Eventually a small lag in slow motion animations.
In my hardware it only worked in windowed mode.
The configuration to make it run is kinda boring. But if you follow those steps above you will be fine and will be able to enjoy your Arkham Asylum.
.
If even this way you have any issue, check the other guys comments, they are full of tips and workarounds.

Thank you smasonius, thanks to your guide I got my game running!
Worked out of the box with Proton 7.0-4.
Slow motion slightly bugged. Solved tweaking graphics settings inside the game's setup.
Worked out of the box with Proton 7.0-4.
Just install and have fun. No issues.
Small lag on slow motion finisher moves. But I haven't tweaked my graphic settings, just installed and played.
It runs out of the box. Just install and play!
Small slowness in slow motion effects, but the game is heavy for my hardware.
I got a slightly better performance than in Windows.
The native Linux version runs flawlessly!!!
I got a better performance with the native Linux version than I have with the Windows version on Windows.
Just install and have fun!!! Zero issues!!!
The game is heavy for my hardware (I usually play it at another PC), but I got the same performance as in Windows.
It runs smoothly through Proton!!!
The native Linux version didn't launch. So I changed it to the Proton version and it worked flawlessly.
(To enable the Proton version, find the game in your library, launch the Properties, click on Compatibility and check the box of "Force the use of specific Steam Play compatibility tool".)
It works out of the box. INSTALL AND HAVE FUN!!!
I got a better performance than in Windows, even in my very modest hardware.
Native Linux runs good. Proton version runs better.
Some stuttering in cutscenes, but not too often, in the native Linux version. I didn't watch any cutscene while using Proton.
I tested it in both versions.
.
In the native Linux version it runs very good, despite of little stuttering in the cutscenes.
.
The Proton version runs better.
.
It's important to notice that for this game, Steam will handle the save games separately. So your Linux save only works with the native Linux version, and your Windows save only works with the Proton version. However, both can coexist in your cloud backups, so you don't need to be afraid of one erasing the other.
Just install and have fun!!! Zero issues!!!
I played this game for several hours in the past in multiplayer, both of us using the native Linux version. Today I launched the game just to see if it still works, and it is still flawless as the last time I played.
Minor bugs, but runs fine.
Game crashed in a cutscene. After I closed the game and started again, I had no issues in this same cutscene. It's important to take into consideration that my hardware isn't that great.
A little delay before loading cutscenes and new maps. Doesn't affect the gameplay.
Probably with a better hardware you can get a better experience.
