after alt-tabbing, it's impossible to control the character anymore. it simply stop listening for user controls, even if the menus are still navigable. the problem is resolvable by restarting the game, so i recommend not alt-tabbing while playing. this problem should not be present using the Linux Steam Runtime 1.0, but i had heavy performance issues using that.
the game suffered heavy performance issues using the Steam Linux Runtime 1.0, which i resolved by using Proton GE

Would not start without compatibility mode enabled

Windows version consistently freezes every 30 minutes of playing, regardless of Proton version.
Controller sometimes isn't detected but can be manually selected in the game menu.
Native Linux version does not launch at all unless you add the following launch option:
OPENSSL_CONF=/etc/ssl/ %command%

OPENSSL_CONF=/etc/ssl/ %command%
With Proton I needed to enable pulse audio with protontricks. Because of my 24 channel audio interface and using JackAudio all the time this is sort of a reoccuring problem but there are some games that don't require any change.
When running with Proton the game can not alt-tab without it becoming unresponsive. It's not completely frozen because I can still open menus and interact with the game until I try to control the character. At that point I have to quit and restart.
The native version does not have this issue.
With Proton there are unpredictable game "freezes". It's weird because it's not completely locked up. The menus work but character controls do not. The mouse cursor can also sometimes be locked to the game so I'm unable to use the mouse in my desktop. At this point I kill the game from a terminal.
The only issue that would prevent me from playing online is the "freeze" that I previously described. So far this is only when running with Proton. I'll update if I run into other issues with the native version.
Play on Steam Deck or run the game with Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout) by selecting it from the compatibility menu.
Also run with the launch option "OPENSSL_CONF=/etc/ssl/ %command%".
What I found from attempting to run the native version on a modern system is that libgcrypt is too new for the game. It's possible to install the older version but I don't recommend doing that. Using the Steam Linux Runtime will fix that issue. At that point the game will still not launch because of an error related to OpenSSL. The launch option above allowed the game to start.
The native game sometimes stutters but that's much better than having to restart the game and potentially lose progress since the last save.
Set graphics to medium, great battery life at 60 fps
Gamepad was set to Player 2 by default, changed to Player 1 in the options menu

This plays at 60fps with settings on high. No frame drops during large fights. The main menu is 16:9 aspect ratio but will be in the correct aspect ratio in-game.
40hz refresh rate framerate cap
locks up completely after around 30-45 minutes playing. Tried several proton versions.
Limited FPS to 30.
Text is a bit small.
Just install and have fun!!! Zero issues!!!
I played this game for several hours in the past in multiplayer, both of us using the native Linux version. Today I launched the game just to see if it still works, and it is still flawless as the last time I played.
