To avoid any issue, just use the windows version
There are some bugs that occur only in native (linux) version, notably steam overlay and also controller being weird. I suggest using windows version instead
(Gear icon > Properties > Compatibility > Check the Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool
checkbox)
Works great out of the box, if you want to install geode you have to use the launch option
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="XInput1_4=n,b" %command%
If you want to install geode, firstly you have to use the launch options (Gear icon > Properties > General > Launch Options), then you have to get the geode installer file (.exe
) from their website, and follow these steps:
- Browse local files (gear icon on library > Manage > Browse local files)
- Rename the current
GeometryDash.exe
to something else, e.g.GeometryDashReal.exe
- Move the geode installer to this directory and rename it to
GeometryDash.exe
- Launch the game, you should see Geode installer is running
- After finish installing, rename the geode installer back,
GeometryDash.exe
togeode.exe
and also rename the real geometry dash back, e.g.GeometryDashReal.exe
toGeometryDash.exe
- Launch the game again, and you should see that now, geode is installed.
Force the game to use it's windows version (force enable proton) to get controller working
Using Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, the controls are like jumbled, you have to use the Windows version of this game to get it work right
Just FYI if some of you guys don't know how to do it:
- Open properties of the game (this can be done through the gear icon on library)
- Go to compatibility tab and check
Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool
and leave it the default (for me it'sProton Hotfix
)
Anti-Cheat block Linux Desktop
Some people said that using Proton-EM-10.0-23 will work, and it's Steam Deck Verified anyway, but nope I think it's patched or something like that, but it doesn't work. It will launch the launcher, but as soon as you click the Play button, it loads the game and tells you that the anti cheat just freaks out and kick you out of the game. Bad ACE (Anti-Cheat Expert)
I also tried using ProtonGE 10-8 (because Wuthering Waves, using ACE, is able to run on Linux now), and still get kicked out of the game by the anti cheat.
Work great out of the box, just install and click play
On rare occasion, when it's on sleep for too long it freezes, I'm not really sure what causing it, but it seems that it's pretty random
Works fine out of the box
Because the game is still in beta/early access, you might encounter a slight performance degrading issue but that's really not Linux's issue, but instead the game itself, also reproducible in Windows.
Sometimes it doesn't react to window sizing, but when MV plays, it will.
SteamDeck=1 %command%
Initial login window sometimes glichy, other than that, it's fine
