Worked for me right out of the box; launcher and all. Got through the tutorial and started the main campaign.
I'm running Fedora 30 (not sure why ProtonDB didn't detect it). I had to attempt to start the game 3 times (Steam would say "Running" next to the title in my library for a few seconds and then the "Running" label would disappear). After the 3rd attempt the started and ran with no issues. This is why I'm knocking this down to Gold. On further play attempts I was able to start it on first time with no issues.
I played for over an hour in both fullscreen and windowed mode. I had no issues alt+tabbing to the desktop and back in any mode. The game just keeps running in the background. In windowed mode you can watch the game while working on other things. In fullscreen you cannot watch the game while working in other windows. I also had no issues with my 3 monitor setup. The game is running right now on my main monitor (windowed mode 2560x1080) while I type this in my 2nd monitor. I also no issues listening to Spotify while running the game.
Black screen on startup
When I start the game I just get a black fullscreen that goes nowhere. I tried Steam in a Flatpak (bad idea). I tried the RPM Fusion Steam. I tried manually setting Proton to version 5.13-6, 5.0-10. and 4.11-13 but none worked.
Nothing launches
I tried with the "/nolauncher" launch option. When I press PLAY I get a 2 second "Preparing to Launch" dialog box that disappears.
The Flatpak install from Flathub on Fedora 33 Workstation won't run any SteamPlay games! I had to remove the Steam Flatpak and install Steam from RPM Fusion for Fedora 33. Then I had to change the game's compatibly settings from "Proton Experimental" to "Proton 5.13-6" to get it to load the actual game.
Works out of the box
I didn't have to tweak a thing. I'm running Fedora 35 with Wayland and the default AMD driver. Steam is installed from Flathub. The game worked on my ultrawide in a multi-monitor setup. The game sounds fine. There's no music, but I think that's intentional (early access and all).
My Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS also worked. Though getting everything bound and calibrated was a little tricky. The game doesn't respect deadzones while in the key binding menus, so the cursor starts flying all over. Because of this, its easy to screw up calibration. The mini joystick on the throttle was the biggest source of pain here. In game, the deadzones seem to work fine.
I've got about 60 minutes logged. As with all flight sims, most of that time was spent in menus fiddling with key binds. The sorties I did fly worked well.
According to mangohud I get about a 12 FPS drop for a split second when zooming into the boat. It's hardly noticeable.
gamemoderun %command%
My OS is Fedora Kinonite. I'm using the default settings for the game. I played through all the tutorial missions and started the first real mission; about 2 hours of playtime. I'm writing this report while my boat is sailing in the background. Interesting note about those zoom-in frame drops...it's always about 12 FPS, regardless if I'm vsync'd to 60 or 75.
Once you get the launch errors sorted, and if you don't have the save issues others seem to be having. It works as intended!
(Reported experimental version: Proton Experimental)
Launch Option: PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
First I was getting a missing .deb error when launching. I switch to Proton Experimental and that went away. Then that turned into a Java error when launching. I added the launch option PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to fix that. I played a round, quit, and restarted. My progress was there. I'm using Steam installed from the rpmfusion repos.
