Linux version is abandoned, the Windows version works really well with Proton.
Anti cheat doesn't work. Given playing on official servers is not a big loss as the experience is quite bad for me, I don't mind.
Recommended, works quite well
Game seems to have unlocked FPS. To use less CPU resources, and have more for remote play or call with friends playing together by other means, I started the game forcing vsync. For Mesa drivers (AMD radeon and Intel) set the launch option
vblank_mode=3 %command%
Due to the complexity of the tinkering required I don't think this should be considered as enjoyable for the typical gamer
Game works with Proton 4.2 (not 4.11 for some reason), but cut scenes do not work. There are workarounds available for Proton listed in this page, but I decided to keep Proton stock and used Lutris instead. It is necessary to apply an additional fix mentioned on the game page on the Lustris website to make the cut scenes to work. They do not work out of the box.
https://lutris.net/games/darksiders-warmastered-edition/ there you can find the link for the mf-installcab from github: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab
Once the necessary workaround is applied the game works perfectly fine, no issue whatsoever, 10/10 experience. Gamepad works as well out of the box, just be sure not to use the keyboard right after the start as the first input the game gets will be the controlling one. So the controller must be used to show the main menu.
The occasional freeze is not a major problem. Everything else is flawless
Every few hours of gameplay the game freezes and needs to be stopped via steam
Proton 5.0 seems to run a tad better and make the crashes less frequent than proton 5.13. The difference is minor between the two. The game works great other than the freeze annoyance, and given the style of the game it's not a major problem.
Flawless, it's identical to the native experience, but see one important note below
To use this game with ESYNC (which is enabled by default in Proton) you must ensure you have the number of open file limit set to 1 million or higher. In my previous report I had it at half a million and it was not enough, this was the cause of the freeze.
To know the limit run the following command
$ ulimit -n
1000000
if it says less than one million you must change the config by editing the file /etc/security/limits.conf and adding two lines similar to the two below
your_username soft nofile 1000000
your_username hard nofile 2000000
Final Fantasy X works very well and would be enjoyable. X-2 is not playable unfortunately.
Sometimes Final Fantasy X starts without audio. Restart the game until it's back
Final Fantasy X is quite stable, but X-2 crashes very often and is not playable
Settings from the launcher doesn't work.
Edit '.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/359870/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/SQUARE ENIX/FINAL FANTASY X&X-2 HD Remaster/GameSetting.ini' and change the Language to en. Don't bother with the rest of the settings you can change them in game by pressing escape and clicking "System Settings".
Final Fantasy X-2 crashes wine during the fist mission and sometimes during random encounters. Proton experimental helps a bit, but it doesn't solve the problem
With DKVK games crashes often when entering or during battles. Switching to wined3d makes the crashes rare. The only downside is the load / save menu is not fully rendering, but is still usable.
using proton-experimental
in Final Fantasy X audio is sometimes missing, just restart the game until it's back. No issues with Final Fantasy X-2
load save menu doesn't fully render, but is still usable. Everything else is fine at max quality
Even with wined3d game occasionally freezes, so save often
For FFX no special setting is required. For FFX-2 I had to set PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=0 %command%
In FFX sometimes the audio doesn't work. Restart the game until it does
In FFX-2 using wined3d the load and save menu doesn't render correctly, but can still be used without problems. Everything else is fine. With DXVK the menu renders correctly, but the game is not stable
Very rarely fps drops a bit, for example in Besaid (with max settings) in FFX-2. This is due wined3d with DXVK performance is better
FFX requires no tweaking, it works fine with the default, except audio problems that requires the game to be restarted until it works again. Proton experimental might help, but proton 5.13-6 might also work just fine for FFX.
FFX-2 requires tweaking to be stable. With DXVK it will crash often in battles. To have the game run stable I use
PROTON_LOG=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=0 %command%
The game is perfectly enjoyable with these settings.
Gamepad also works basically out of the box. Had to remap most of the buttons in game, but not a big deal. Runs perfectly fine overall.
Must use Proton 4.2 to play the game, using 4.11 will make game crash at start. Could be a bug in the version of Wine being used as with 4.21 staging from Fedora the game was running fine.
Works great
I played the entire series without issues. I think past audio issues should be solved with the current stable version of proton, but otherwise try with experimental. There is not need of going to custom stuff like ProtonGE to play this game perfectly fine.
vsync seems to be better disabled on ME1 and ME2, but enabled in ME3, at least for my experience.
Very minor artifacts every now and again. Difficult to actually notice, not a big problem at all.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command% must be used to launch the game or there will be occasional crashes. When using the option above game becomes rock solid.
protontricks 275850 winecfg switching to Windows 10 (default was Win7) is necessary to get multiplayer working after patch 4.05
For multiplayer Windows 10 or 11 is required by the game, proton must be set to emulate Windows 10 and everything will worked without issues
Works out of the box also without any tinkering (protontricks), but if your Proton is set to Windows 7 multiplayer will not work. Everything else will work as usual, only multiplayer is affected.
Works really well, you'll enjoy
Very rare crashes (might have been solved with a recent update). Games auto-saves frequently, there is almost no progress loss, not a problem
There is an issue with changing the graphical settings when in fullscreen or borderless window mode. As a workaround switch to windowed mode and set the settings as you like, then close the game. Edit the file
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1465360/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My\ Games/SnowRunner/base/storage/video.dat
and change the number after "WindowMode": to 1 to go back to borderless window.
Worked flawlessly since a recent game update solving input issues with the Unity engine. Gamepad works as well. Performance is great. 10/10
Perfect out of the box with stock proton
Using stock Proton 6.3-7, the game worked flawlessly as far as I can say. No issues with audio, video or gamepad whatsoever.
Work better than the native version
Game will not start by default, it will close shortly after starting it not showing the menu. Workaround is simple:
cp -r $HOME/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/the\ witcher\ 2/bin/config/* $HOME/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/compatdata/20920/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My\ Documents/Witcher\ 2/Config/
Didn't try anything smarter, it worked perfectly fine after this
Don't waste your time with the Linux native "port". It's an EON based port and it's quite buggy, game will crash quite often and has problems handling the savefiles. Using the Windows version via Proton is a much much better experience
Works great, no issue.
Using ACO shader compiler helps reducing occasional stuttering on AMD hardware. For versions of Mesa where ACO is not the default (older than 20 IIRC) use the following launcher option
RADV_PERFTEST=aco %command%
Simply perfect
If you don't have an Nvidia card be sure to disable the Nvidia hair stuff in the options, it might sink your frame rate when running on non Nvidia hardware.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% is required to run the game, or it will get stuck in the leading menu. After that, it's flawless.
Tested the whole single player campaign and online multiplayer game with friends, with keyboard or gamepad. It's a pretty much perfect, glitch free experience, and a lot of fun.
