Failed to init Auth.
Install and update, but gives "Failed to init Auth." error in a windows' terminal window.
It works a lot better than native (for me)
Game is really slow when I try to play in any default setting that is not low config. Still have to try some customization to make game a little prettier.
A little background: I've been trying to play DX:MD Native on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS for a while now but it would just crash in the first loading screen (even before menus), so I contacted Feral Interactive and sent .dmp file, but they said they couldn''t test it on 20.04 right now. So, I downgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS expecting a different result but the crash was the same. Now, I'm back on 20.04, same hardware, using Proton.
This is why I'm saying it works better than native (for me): I managed to open the game, play through a couple of missions with minor and rare stuttering without any tweaks and I'm really happy to finally play this game on linux.
Managed to play until the second boss
FPS Drops when rendering new stuff
Haven't tried at windows so wouldn't know if theres anything more to expect, managed to play on high settings without problems. Played on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and on Arch, having better performance on Ubuntu (don't know why, same libraries installed, same drivers, gamemode, proton version, etc)
Just works out of the box! If resolution isn't good at your screen, just change personal.ini file at ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/102500/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Reckoning/personal.ini
It's working as expected
Had a little stuttering so I added gamemoderun %command% to initialization options and it ran a lot better. Game have some glitches and slowness but it's because it's still in early access (same happens on Windows).
Game has started without controller support. Even after configuring, controller won't work. After starting game server it was too lagged to play, then an error just pops saying something about create 2D layer or something and crashes.
Had to enable PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% at initialization options, game is too slow while using DXVK
In order to make any of the games start working, install winetricks and protontricks, open terminal and execute command: protontricks 743900 wmp11 (this will make wmv videos playable, so games won't freeze in a black screen)
With DXVK games are too slow (about 15fps), with WineD3D X7 works just fine, X6 and X5 run at 25~30fps, which is kinda slow, but is playable. Hasn't played X8 yet.
Games are playable, even with framerate kinda low. It detects gamepads (at least detected the Xbox 360 controller) and has no significant bugs or crashes.
Install dependencies on first run but won't open anything else. Second run foward just won't do anything when play button is clicked.
Had to rename filenames and change ini file as described below. Game works fine, with some minor visual and audio glitches during scenes, but works great during matches. X360 Controller worked just fine too.
It works, but it's kinda slow even on lower settings
Use protontricks 221040 -q wmp11
to get videos working, no need to replace video for dummy files.
Improved by adding PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=150
to initialization options
It took a lot less effort than in my last report, so... Played through whole Leon campaign using Proton, first I had lots of stuttering in cinematics but got it to work with Feral's gamemoderun
. My initialization options are PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=150 gamemoderun %command%
. Heard that if you don't have Feral's game mode you can install it or try NVIDIA's pvkrun
.
Game's playable, you must do some tricks to make it, but it's just as much work as you'd have installing drivers and DLLs under Windows.
Used the following instructions mentioned here by someone else, game works it some hard stuttering but was able to play until Deborah.
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/221040/pfx/ winecfg, change Windows version to Windows XP, go to libraries and add wmpnssci to override.
Run the command: WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/221040/pfx/ winetricks gdiplus wsh57.
Download https://download.cnet.com/Windows-Media-Player-64-bit/3000-2139_4-10600284.html%22
Run the command:
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/221040/pfx/ wine wmp11-windowsxp-x64-enu.exe (if the validation hangs close the installer and try it again).
Run the command WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/221040/pfx/ winecfg and change the Windows version to Windows 7.
It works
X360 Controller not detected, neither through common steam nor big picture
Download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/file/1zzmeara8xhldz0/XLive.dll/file
than put it on this folder: $HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City/
And game works just fine!
I had a similar issue (crash with access violation) when trying to play Grim Dawn, but GOG w/ DXVK install script worked for me so I decided to try it with this game and it worked too.
To install the game through lutris, use GOG w/ DXVK version from the following link: https://lutris.net/games/grim-dawn/ , when it asks for the GOG Installer, just point to the steam installer instead, then configure the installed game on lutris to open steam .exe instead of grim dawn. Install SoS and play! There's probably a better way to do it (by installing all the dependencies and configurations from grim dawn script instead going all the way to install a lutris prefix), but I lack technical knowledge to read the script and understand what it does. Here's the starting point, hope someone improves it in the near future!
Working nearly out of the box
Everything working as expected, great game, but I hadn't tried playing without using: gamemoderun %command%
Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Game started at windowed mode 1024x768, I managed to change it to 1280x720 (so the window would fit into my 1366x768 screen with OS' top bar) but had an error (The client has been shutdown due to an error. We apologize for [...] The information that will be sent: error code, CPU, VGA and the memory driver information - Yes / No) when trying to set it to fullscreen.
After few atempts in different maps at random moments I managed to make it fullscreen and it works great.
It happens to crash after changing some settings or depending on the amount of people in the same map as you
I've been waiting for years now to play this game on linux, had 150+ hours when I had windows but since I left it I couldn't play this game anymore. Now I can play and I'm really glad we have proton!
With Wine D3D I've had no errors when setting game to fullscreen, but had FPS dropped to 45FPS from 60FPS without it. It happens that game just crashes on transition from windowed to fullscreen, so you can set PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1, change game to fullscreen, close game and remove it, so it'll just work on fullscreen without fps loss.
It rarely crashes after changing some setting or depending on the amount of people in the same map as you

Without using Wine D3D it staggers at 12 fps and it's really annoying to play
With Wine D3D, game works fine... well... with 55~60 FPS, but game is intended to be played at 30 FPS, so it just moves too fast...
To fix this, you must install libstrangle [https://github.com/milaq/libstrangle] (just follow install instructions) then, in steam, add to initialization options: PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 strangle 30 %command%
Wine D3D will make game run faster than it should, so you use libstrangle to limit game's fps to 30, and everything works just fine!
Fixed with initialization options:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%
Played windowed and fullscreen without any trouble. Also played K+M and Joystick without any trouble. Couldn't check the crash no-joystick bug mentioned in other reports as my joystick was always connected.
Game works fine, did some quests on open world maps and quest-maps, hadn't found any trouble that wasn't on windows version as well.
Tried disabling D3D11 and using D9vk without success. Black screen, nothing happens. Proton log says it's having an issue with some media, probably some unsupported video format for game's intro.
As mentioned, using "protontricks 992300 ffdshow" seems to work (for protontricks installation instructions, visit https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks). For some reason, game started in chinese, you can change language going to the second to last option in main menu, then first option, then change first item to English. Played through tutorial without issues.
