Multiplayer worked PERFECTLY. Literally invited a friend and they immediately popped up next to me. That easy.
I ran this with GE-Proton-7-50 just to see if I could squeeze more performance out of it, I get about 90FPS on a 2070 Super playing at high. I am unsure it made a difference, or if this is even different than Windows. Runs great!
Runs great and multiplayer ran perfectly. Ran out of the box with GE Proton 9-4 but likely would have run with the recommended proton layer from steam if I had to guess. idk what other reports were suggesting by hosting multiplayer being borked - it worked perfectly for me. The game ran as stable as it did on Windows 11
900p @ 18W TDP. 60 FPS lock on ROG Ally
Rare crashes.
Tinker Report due to launching via Heroic as I own this on Amazon Prime gaming. Runs PERFECT out of the box!
Once switching to experimental, game ran perfectly, even with enhanced graphics! I only tested Campaign and Co-Op, not other multiplayer.
Before switching to experimental, the game would drop HEAVY in Frames looking at every new texture (so basically all the time) and this persisted on both the latest proton build 7.0-6 and on the latest GE Proton build 7-50. Experimental made it work as you would expect out of the box. SWITCH TO EXPERIMENTAL!

You need to get a file called "XAudio2_9.dll" from a Windows installation (in the Windows/system32 folder) and paste it in the same folder that "METAL GEAR SOLID 2.exe" is in. Otherwise, there is no sound when starting game and the game inevitably crashes. If you Dual Boot, this should be an easy file to find! If not, then the game is borked for you.

Although not required, GE Proton and Game Mode got slightly more stable performance. Totally playable without tinkering, though!

Jumped straight to my default, which is most recent GE Proton and the Game Mode command, but I am almost certain on Nvidia this game will run perfectly OOTB. With my VERY minor tinkering, it may even run better than it did for me on Windows 11 Home.....

Works great out of the box. I always default to GE proton and game mode, but this would run fine OOTB even with an Nvidia GPU. Only weirdness is the game takes a bit to load in even on an SSD, but, Windows 10/11 took a while as well, I think this is just an issue across the board.

Runs perfect out of the box!
I got this off of steam, but I imagine it will work totally fine on steam as well. I ran it as a non-steam game with proton 7.0-6, the latest build. Runs perfect. PLAY THIS GAME!
First time you use any of the attacks, the game stutters, but later on it would not. Other than that, works great out of the box. I always default to GE proton and game mode, but this should run fine OOTB even with an Nvidia GPU
Game runs mostly great out of the box, most performance issues likely a PC wide problem rather than linux only.
Minor artifacting on close-range shadows. More noticable with FSR 3 enabled.
This game has a VRAM problem where the textures stay loaded in too long on long playthroughs. I played for 8 hours and towards the end, the ending scenes of the game kind of chugged at 30FPS at best. The majority of my playthough was not like this, and closing and reopening the game likely would fix it.
I use GE Proton by default, but I would wager standard proton would run fine + game mode.
GOG Linux Version. Works perfect.

Multiplayer worked perfectly without issue in both public and private online.
Played with GE-Proton7-50 and Game Mode. Ran perfectly at a solid frame rate online with no issues. Game Mode netted a few extra FPS for me, but default launching works fine too.
