I got 20-30 more FPS under Linux than I normally do under Windows using the exact same settings. Modding is pretty involved from my testing, but some have been able to get it to work. It's worth tinkering with since there's so many good ones that improve the base experience.
Starts but won't connect and has issues initializing SteamAPI
Tried a whole ton of Proton versions and the only one that launched was 7.0-6. Regardless of this, the game pops up with an error "SteamAPI Init failed!". Hitting "okay" in this dialogue brought me into the game and allowed me to get to the first screen after the intro. Clicking "connect" just gives you an endless spinning circle.
On the 3rd launch after processing vulkan shaders, game crashed a couple times on startup due to the EA app having issues connecting to the internet. It seems to fix itself once connection is reestablished. To be safe, I'd also say to make sure your EA and Steam accounts are already linked so you don't have to sign in, since the EA app, when it pops up before it launches the game, is completely blank.
EA app overlay is laggy and barely displays any information apart from your friends. It doesn't effect the experience of the actual game from my testing apart from maybe managing your friends list in-game.
Might have to manually press the "connect" button once in the game, but it worked flawlessly without issue once connected.
I've played this game on and off since the BETA came out and it's a blast. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan myself, but as third/first person shooters go, it's incredibly solid and has lots of small details you may or may not notice. The gunplay is satisfying and enjoyable, and all the characters, roles, maps and modes are unique and fun to play (Galactic Assault is what Battlefield 2042's Breakthrough wished it could be). Everything down to transitions and loading screens all just come together to make this super immersive experience that anybody could get lost in. The battle points system feels pretty balanced, but a lot of people will hog heroes and reinforcements, and some heroes are pretty unbalanced to play against. The game was indistinguishable in performance compared to on Windows, which is always a welcome bonus. I was averaging around 150-160 fps at 1440p high settings. :)
Overall, it's honestly one of the last hits that EA and their devs have made before their reputation seriously went into the toilet following Battlefield V, and it's a huge improvement over Battlefront (2015), at least as far as multiplayer games go. I haven't played the Singleplayer much at all, so I can't really give my opinion on it. If you're going to buy this game, definitely get it on sale. It's a great game, but not worth $40 in my eyes. It goes for super cheap all the time anyway, so you won't have to wait long.
P.S., play during peak hours for the best experience. The game has about 700+ concurrent players. Ping is not an issue, it's mostly just finding a full enough game to play.
It's super fun, even with it's current issues. It has that OG Splitgate feel while being significantly more polished.
Would not detect mouse input. Switching to Proton Hotfix fixes this for some reason?
Game stutters occasionally and will slow down when a lot of stuff is happening on-screen
Highly recommend!!!!
