I had to use Proton Experimental just to even get to the main menu, as anything else would give me a white screen.
I can play with the settings, but actually trying to play the game just crashes everything.
Proton GE 7-14 gives me visual glitches on the main menu, but game is otherwise playable. Playing on Proton Experimental eliminates the glitch at the main menu, but both versions have the same problem with cutscenes. In-game cutscenes play just fine, but others (that presumably use Media Foundation or whatever) don't work yet.
Using Proton-GE 7.16-1, the previous issue with certain cutscenes is now resolved. Game plays pretty much perfect.
Runs full speed on Deck using Proton-GE. You can lock it at 30FPS for longer battery life, if you desire.
The game now runs on Proton Experimental without issue. No need to install Proton-GE, if for whatever reason you'd prefer not to.
Use Proton GE to play this.
Ran into the problem on desktop where some videos have extreme slowdown. Have not yet encountered this issue on the Deck. Same version of Proton-GE in both.
Proton-GE 6.21
Works OOTB using the latest stable Proton 6.3-8, but that currently lacks the ME1 audio fix.
Proton Experimental works up until some time last week, when suddenly the game no longer recognized my controller/gamepad.
Proton-GE is the currently the only Proton release that has the ME1 audio fix without the bug that removes controller recognition.
Works OOTB
After the recent patches, it plays perfectly well with no frame drops. However, I want to note that the demo, pre-patch, had an issue where setting the game to "Fullscreen" in display settings would cause the game to frequently crash my desktop while attempting to launch.
I switched back to "Borderless" and the problem went away. I suspect this issue was due to my Intel Arc GPU, since I couldn't replicate it on my Steam Deck. I don't know if this problem was fixed with the recent patches, but I wanted to throw that out there. If you use an Intel Arc GPU, I recommend leaving screen mode on the default "Borderless" setting just to be safe.
Now works on Intel Arc
Previously would not launch at all when running an Intel Arc GPU. With the addition of Vulkan "sparse" support in the i915 driver in Mesa 24.0, it now launches and plays without issue.
Works OOTB
Everything works fine, but I do want to note that selecting "Options" in Shadow Generations will crash the game. I believe this is an Intel Arc specific issue, as I could not replicate this on my Steam Deck.
Game crashes if you try to play custom music from the SRWMUSIC folder. Otherwise, the game plays perfectly so far. Will update as necessary as I play through the game.
Controls do not work. Games boots into the menu fine, but none of my buttons register. Unable to play the game.
It worked perfectly when I transferred the files manually from an external drive, but when reinstalling the game from Steam I get the aforementioned issue with my controls not working.
Works OOTB
Previously, you'd have to hold left click to get the game to boot. Then, once you were at the menu, Alt+Tab to a different program, then Alt+Tab back into the game to get it to "hold" so you could play without holding left click. This "issue" appears to have been resolved, as the game now boots normally, letting you play without any issue.
