Set Q to L4
Tdw to 8, fps to 45, gpu way down
Audio didn't switch to headphones while running. Quitting, plugging in headphones, and launching fixed it
Adjusted min and max framerate in default.ini to 30 and 45
Occasionally, and only when coming out of sleep mode. Restarting game would fix it.
Massive slowdown in scenes with some enemies if physX is not set to low
FPS set to 45, TDW to 8w, GPU set to 1ghz
Cute little 'Something went wrong', after leaving a proving ground. Stack trace pointed to null reference in fmod. Only time its happened in several hours, and game auto saves often.
Requires a Frontier account, but isn't the worst launcher to deal with
In game FSR enabled by default, even when rendering to 100% resolution. Set to normal to make text readable.
Framerate will hold quite well at 45fps, but severe dips come often.
Resuming from sleep mode will trigger error that game lost connection to server, even when playing in solo mode. Sleep mode not recomended
Inability to resume from sleep mode means you might skip this on steamdeck
Either put up with crashes to the main menu when using sleep/resume, or get into the habit of quitting when done.
Quite fiddly launcher than you must go through each time you start. The launcher doesn't offer a lot of options, so don't see why it couldn't just accept a default to start the game.
In game FSR option is garbage. Use Steam Deck FSR if needed.
Couldn't eliminate shimmering from geometry edges
Framerate could remain stable but drop considerably at various points. In FPS mode there're are a lot of effects, though usually not a lot of actual geometry, in space stations can be quite detailed but there's nothing else much going on.
Game does not support SteamDeck sleep mode. Putting the deck to sleep, and resuming will get you an error saying you've been disconnected from server (even when playing in a solo galaxy), and throw you back to the main menu.
Janky mess of a game, but the space flight and trading is great, so long as you play it as if you were on a pc and turning it off after playing.
Works well out of the box, but Asciendo Portable and tinkering with graphic settings is recommended
Ran 'Asciendo Portable' mod in desktop mode after install
Added back grip shortcuts for some of the mods to work
Text 'in world' can be a bit blurry if FSR is used
Textures can take a little longer to load than preferrable, FSR options available are very conservative (~67% at the highest) so expect blurriness if using them.
FPS between 30-45 in Hogwarts and Hogsmede is achievable, using a mix of settings low-high and without FSR! Mods work well, but some will need keyboard commands mapped to the controller. Using FSR you'll get better FPS, but at a significant cost to image quality.
Dropped frame rate to 30 to double battery life
Most text just about fine, but on screen icons can be a little small.
Lower fps to 30 to double battery life, it still runs smooth, and removes stutter from loading areas.
Recommend using a physical keyboard until developers fix issues using on screen keyboard.
Game doesn't need a lot, so usual 45fps, TDW of 8
Game has the option of writing onto printed stationary or in to a plain text box. Using SteamDeck onscreen keyboard you could use either, but neither were perfect. The keyboard would hide the bottom half of the paper, halving your character count. The textbox method would often discard what you had written when the game is meant to paste it to the paper, losing your effort.
Works well enough out of the box, but some changes to graphics settings, and mods through the steam workshop can make this game sing.
Set L5 to show the area map, which seemed more comfortable.
GUI definitely favours a large screen. Font could do with scaling. Lore text is small and constrained to centered layout boxes. Mods can fix HUD issues, but you tend to know what all that means by the 2nd or 3rd battle.
Light stuttering at certain intervals
Out of the box settings push the steam deck a bit too much. I have't tried using FSR (which is an option), but a combination mix of settings from Low to High can get you a framerate between 30-45 depending on the environment. A couple of Mods improve this futher by optimising textures and physics calculations.
M5M is an always online game, even when playing in solo. If you use Steamdeck sleep mode, expect a "Network Disconnected" error when you turn it back on, and seemingly at random intervals when playing. It does nothing else, but is the most annoying part of playing.
Proton GE 20 gives similar performance to stock.
Game seems to run fine in linux, but not SteamDeck: there was little difference in framerate between Medium and High Graphical settings.
Game seems to only support Mouse and Keyboard
Small text in huds
Couldn't achieve much more than 23FPS on Medium
Once in game menus were very unresponsive. Could just be the nature of the game, however.
FPS stays between 25-34 range, regardless of graphhical settings. Medium settings with reduced draw distance is a good compromise. Seem like a bit of optimisation could make it sing.
Froze on exiting 1/3 times so far.
Tried a couple of other versions of Proton including GE20, none of them seemed to have the edge over the others. The draw distances seem crazy high (15km for basic geomery and 4km for trees), so I assumed dragging them way down would improve performance, but on reducing each by 1/4 I only saw boosts of 1-2fps.
Some slight vertical tearing in cutscenes, particuarly with slow animations. May not be a proyon issue
