Tried different versions of Proton along with
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 %command%
in effort to fix graphics problems but did not succeed.
Game would launch with following error message:
"We have detected that you are running unsupported drivers for your AMD Hardware ... Failure to upgrade means that application is much more likely to crash."
And would then boot.
Game only played on lowest graphics settings regardless of what I set them to.
Other than that game is playable.
Runs well with minor issues - only one of the issues I experienced was persisent throughout play and did not impact gameplay or experience.
I experienced two issues during gameplay:
1 - the HUD elements for batman's items (explosive gel, batarang, et cetera) would not appear to end to end, with the resepctive image loading in only when I selected the relevant item 2 - during death scenes in Joker's territory parts of his face would not render correctly - primarily with a black block appearing around his chin
Ran out the box and ran very well.
Sometimes when i closed the game the application would not end and could only be terminated through the system manager or terminal.
Currently unplayable
Attempted to run game using various versions of Proton. Was unable to start new game with game sitting on loading screen for indefinite period before eventually crashing.
With some versions of Porton the game would open in to a small window that could be expanded.
Second levle of Crash 1 would not load and would instead load to a black screen where I could open the pause menu and go back to the overworld map.
This issue was fixed by moving the game files to a shorter file path - this issue and the fix are not linux exclusive.
Ran out the box as if I were playing on Windows.
Played both the main game and the 2 Daud DLC through to the end. 100% stable; no crashes; no performance issues.
Far off terrain/skybox (the mountains in the distance in second mission would sometimes look "bubbly" similar to a lense effect for rain.
Hitching and delays in the pause/powers menu
Requires GE in order to run acceptability. Boots with lowest graphic settings but works on highest.
Framerate not as high or stable as I would expect. GE prevents most hitching.
gamemoderun %command%
Strange artefacts when viewing the island from the boat. Bubbles like a wet lense effect.
hitching and frame loss during combat sequences.
Ran acceptably but with noticable issues including persistent screen tearing and frame loss/hitching during combat sequences.
A few times throughout my playthrough the frame rate dropped to 1-3 FPS with seemingly no rhyme or reason. Issue was fixed every time with a restart.
By all measures ran well - and in fact ran better than Dishonored 2 despite ostensibly being the same game.
screen tearing
Runs well - very stable with the exception of issues with steam overlay and one crash that I believe was related to overlay notification.
The Steam Overlay does not work when playing the game. If I receive a message offer steam while playing the game the pop up notification will appear and the screen will briefly flash white.
Game required experimental proton for multiplayer to work - otherwise anticheat would block it.
When in fullscreen mode on a multi-monitor set up the mouse would escape the boundaries of the screen.
When changing to borderless window mode this was less present and the mouse would only escape the boundaries of the window when I was in a menu that included a cursor.
The game often crashes when I open the settlement menu in Graywater and I experienced one random crash when clearing out Weston Water Treatment Plant.
Fallout 4 is notoriously a little unstable so I would not attribute this strictly to Proton - although it's hard to pin down the exact cause.
When accessing the in-game mod manager I was able to access mods without signing in to my Bethesda Net Account for approx ten minutes before the game prompted me to sign in. I have successfully installed several mods without signing in using this method.

do not install dotnet40. If you do (like I did) delete steam/steamapps/compatdata/962130/
gamemoderun %command%
Averages between 25 - 30 FPS. Ambient Occlusion pushes frame rate ~20 when above high
Game would crash when changing graphics settings - either when applying them in menu, or when accepting next context prompt in game.
Performance issues are not a show stopper, but initial frustration.
The native port did not boot at all, however runs fun through Proton.
Works well out the box. did crash once or twice, but Oblivion is known to crash so did not add to overall evaluation.
Running standard unofficial patches for core game and DLC
