run it in DX11 and use Proton 6.10-GE-1 (at the time of this review) and will be an enjoyable experience.
Audio fell out of sync and had crackling using Proton 6.3-5.
No audio problems so far using Proton 6.10-GE-1
Major artifacts using Proton 6.3-5; Minor artifacts using Proton 6.10-GE-1
Performance is a bit lower than I expected but ran smooth and was playable, ranging anywhere 50-70fps using Proton 6.10-GE-1
Significant performance problems using 6.3-5, could not go above 25fps
Using either proton version (6.3-5 & 6.10-GE-1) would immediately crash the game on startup if using DirectX12. No crashes yet with DirectX11. If DX12 is enabled by default go to /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/397540/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Borderlands 3/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor and select GameUserSettings.ini where you can change the setting to "PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX11".
graphics looked fuzzy along with some artifacting even with motion blur and film grain off. DLSS & Ray-tracing could not be enabled.
Game runs, was sitting anywhere 40-60fps on max settings. though was not able to enable Ray-tracing or DLSS.
This game used to run fine in previous updates, after this update performance issues began to happen.
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
After recent update (Linebattle 2.0) Main menu 3-15fps
Could not break out of low FPS
In Mangohud CPU could not break out of the 20% range and GPU was pinned at 99%. Noticed a significant 107ms delay. I tried Proton GE 7-21 through GE 7-31 along with Proton 7.0-4 and Proton Experimental, I did this while also deleteing the compdata file and there was still no change in performance.
%command% --disable-gpu
Noticed Proton 7 and up gave significant performance issues such as stuttering and low FPS. Proton 6.21-GE fixed the performance issues along with fixing the white splash screen making it no longer needing "%command% --disable-gpu".
At the time of posting this Emerald (US East) was having bad server latency but my end was green.
%command% --disable-gpu
Planetside 2 has allowed battle eye to allow Linux users.
Ran without a Hitch, and for what it's worth, the game is very well optimized and polished. Runs Flawlessly.
Game releases March 24th, 2025. Looks to be a great game for you and your group of friends.
Fix the "Finding Fresh Supplies" bug either by workaround or fixing it and will be enjoyable.
Cannot in-game voice chat.
A bit slower than the Windows counterpart (10-15fps loss)
As of recent update, trying to load into a multiplayer lobby with friends you will be stuck at "Locating Fresh Supplies" in the loading screen. Currently is still bugged in Proton 6.3-5 and 6.10-GE-1. Found a work-around (Using Proton 6.10-GE-1) that can get you in 2/3 times is to load yourself into the game by yourself than join your friend's crew.
LD_PRELOAD=""
Before adding the LD_PRELOAD="" launch option i would have input latency even before the frame dropping issue.
Previous versions of the game used to run great till a recent update to the game that added a "Record your Game" feature where it would cause the game to have really bad frame drops and overall made the game slow down to a difficult to play speed. See thread here - https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11446
As for my report i did not need to run the lua heap launch option, it did not change performance. Thank you for the DarkTide Reddit community for finding my solution and hopefully my findings help others get this game running to a better state.
