Alt-tabbing results in the game still front and centre, when in windowed mode alt-tabbing works fine
DX12 is slower compared to DX11, in DX11 shader compile results in stuttering/uneven frametimes for a few mins
WMF support is a must otherwise you cannot advance in Sanctuary III before starting a new mission. GloriousEggroll releases with rolled in WMF is a must as Experimental builds with reverse-engineered WMF implementation did not work
Runs fantastic on 5.0-7 but not without workarounds
As noted on here, the importing of the codemasters certificate is required to be able to login (even to access single player you need a net connection... why?)
I also tested this game using the Flatpak distributed verison of Steam, however with Flatpak it doesn't seem to use the imported certificate on the system so you'd be stuck with a quarter of the game... Srsly why require internet for single player?!
Using 'PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60' resolved issue, YMMV
Tabbing out results in game slowdown, with game switching to KB+M rather then sticking to controller which leads to jitttery gameplay
Only when tabbing out/loosing screen focus; works fine otherwise
Irregular frame drops especially if the gameplay is hectic
Launch options a must! Pre-caching would be nice too
'WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%' is a must; audio in stereo (not biased to right hand side), no artifacts and facial expressions now sync rather then repeating the starting animation
Choppy/stuttering due to DXVK cache not compiled, noticeable at beginning of scene and camera changes. When repeated stuttering disappears
Using Proton Experimental allows for FMV to be played
Runs as it does on Windows
Slight pausing but that's due down to shader compile
Little annoyances however when overlooked is a solid experience
Alt-Tabbing in/out makes the game think the Left Button of the controller is permanently held down, only way to rectify is to hold down the Alt key while saving & exiting. Setting to Fullscreen mode when tabbing out the game still displays
Turn off Steam Input for the controller to recognise gamepad
Proton 6.3 frame rate chugs in high detailed areas, stick to Proton 5.xx until issue is resolved
Proton 5.xx unable to display the mini videos, Proto 6.x & Experimental displays a placeholder video until the WMF reverse engineering is completed
It's not perfect, but you get the full experience of NMS on the proton layer
Textures do have an issue of loading after a undefined number of hours in the game, usually your player model is affected first
Large stutters in multiplayer worlds, smaller stutters during roaming worlds and complex bases
As of the Outlaws (3.85) update the game crashes when trying to check your frigates in your freighter, this is a fresh update so this will be worked on. After 120odd hours on the previous Sentinel update I have experienced no crash
Works as intended in 2D mode
Whether it's the design of the game or the implementation of the WINE system, the SFX when multiple objects explode completely saturates the output; setting the SFX to 25% prevents this
Unable to test VR or 3D montor modes as lacking equipment
Ran with no problems, better then native port on Proton 5.0-5
Ending game does not terminate the game, using SIGKILL stops the application but Steam reports the game still runs so a restart is required. Minor niggle.
