Its a little bit sluggish at times. I think it's mostly the real-time shadows, turning them to low helped to get closer to a consistent 60 fps. Other than that it ran 45-60 fps depending on action, a little inconsistent but still very playable and enjoyable.
Great demo, looking forward to the full game. Plays great on Deck once you get the controls setup. I shared my control scheme as "Blitzy's CULTIC Demo MK+Gyro".
Postal 4 was just labeled as Playable on Steam Deck but beyond the first play session, I couldn't get the game to load past initial RWS logo
Medium settings, 70% display resolution
Some blurry textures on NPCs
Game wouldn't load back up past the intro video after initial install and load.
Don't recommend, when it does run initially it runs poorly. But then eventually doesn't run at all.
There is some slight color banding that is really only noticable in shadow gradient translations. I've gotten used to it after playing for awhile and now barely notice it.
Prey plays great on the Steam Deck. The community controls that are automatically selected are very well made for playing Prey to right away.
Low resolution textures, fixed by forcing ultra quality via autoexec.cfg file. Also need to enable r_ignoreHWGamma because otherwise some shader effects like heat haze render as black.
You lose 16:10 resolution when switching to this older version of Proton. Setting the resolution in the game's settings.xml works however.
Enabled R4 to be A button. Makes running on carriage and horse a lot more comfortable and you can look around with the right stick better while doing so.
Mix of high/ medium quality settings. Limit to 30 fps. Limit TDP to 8 watts. Set resolution scale to 4/5 (0.800). Getting a pretty solid 30 fps in benchmark.
Lowering Proton to 6.3-8 is critical to enjoying RDR2 on Deck. The crashes that are present in 7.0 and experimental seem to disappear.
-width 1289 -height 800
Made R4 act as A button, makes it easier to sprint / gallop while also being able to orbit the camera around to explore the environment while traveling.
- Most settings set to low.
- Textures quality on Ultra.
- TAA on high / kept sharpening off.
- Limit TDP to 8.
- Limit FPS to 30.
- Unlocked Advanced Graphics settings and Turned everything to lowest setting.
- Soft shadows set to High for extra nice effect with very little to no effect on performance and battery life.
The game still looks fantastic on the smaller screen, it's amazing, the soft shadows really helps make it looks extra nice.
Sometimes audio would start to crackle when coming out of sleep mode. This was also relatively infrequent and was fixed by quickly restarting the game when it did happen.
Sometimes the ground patch textures will artifact, usually in the form of striping. It's relatively infrequent and didnt effect my overall enjoyment.
Also the 1280x800 resolution isn't detected for some reason in this slightly older version of Proton, but using the width and height launch commands fixes that problem.
RDR2 plays wonderfully on Deck with a little bit just a little bit tinkering, it's a near native experience. At the time of writing I've got 60 hours of playtime on Deck in RDR2 and have experienced zero crashes after switching back to Proton 6.3-8. Highly recommended.
