This was tested on a qa branch so performance could have been better

fps capped around 45, fan was very loud

Some textures are not loading in when using default Proton, switching to GE fixed this
Amazing game works out of the box

It's just as janky as was in windows. Haha. All kidding aside, It runs great on medium settings, actually much better than it did in win 10.
Wouldn't start without forcing compatability to proton experimental.

Performance issues are to be expected due to the game's current circumstances
Works OK with Proton Experimental, but using Proton-GE seems to improve performance. Expect a few performance dips, but that's due to how the game is built (and proobably my hardware)

The games menus will not respond to the mouse input on occasion, but this can be fixed by going into the escape menu. Might be an issue with the game itself.
Was unable to save over an old windows save due to a denial of write permission
Over time playing the games performance degrades till you restart it
Do not worry about Proton it works perfect with Unreal engine games the only problem here is that this game is a Bug mess, best way you can do to fix performance is changing Display Resolution i set mine to 75%, the game already looks bad so it doesn't make a lot of difference, at least the game is playable like this
Medium settings, sparce population, 80% 3D resolution
Controller view sensitivity issues, changing sensitivity in game seems to have little to no effect
Runs fine. Issues with the stick are manageable, but I recommend customizing and using the right trackpad to view instead.
Funciona impecable (click and play). El mal rendimiento es propio de la mala optimización.
Quizás el pequeño tinkering que necesitó en mi caso fue el hecho de instalar Eggroll, pero parece que Proton en sí debería correrlo sin problemas.
No adjustments necessary. Works fine out of the box.
Runs flawlessly out of the box.
Had some texture flickering when I initially loaded into the open areas.
Bit of stuttering loading into the open wrold.
Had an single crash but nothing out of the ordinary.
Works pretty great under Proton experimental. Only small issues but works pretty well. Geting about 110FPS on ultra with a 3090 in the open.
Needs touchscreen (mouse emulation) to install UE4 prerequisites on first launch
The game has gamepad support, but has still some problems in the menus
Last Proton Experimental update fixed the video playback issue, now the game is fully playable. Around 30 fps at medium quality
The videos do not play. the performance is bad. sometimes crashes on load.
About 40 fps at 3440x1440 low settings
Crashes on load up sometimes
The Videos do not play
Trying anything other than proton 7 crashes on startup and early versions of protonge7 do not launch
game would freeze ocasionally
would not launch on proton experiemental, but started working with proton-7.1-GE-2
Able to get past the main menu, but after that, the game crashes on loading into monday.
Only after switching to 6.3-8 did it start working, but it doesn't get past the main menu, i even tried running on the lowest settings and it still did not work. The first cutscene for monday is broken as well, as that will just skip after like 3 seconds, no player input. I also tried running on Proton experiemental, and 7.0-1, but those gave black screens unfortunately.

Despite the videos using a non proprietary format, they will crash the game if left in the folder.
You have to remove the movies folder and spam space to even get into the game.
The first 2 mins of the game are gonna run at 10 or so fps, it has a lot to compile, give it time.
Postal 4 was just labeled as Playable on Steam Deck but beyond the first play session, I couldn't get the game to load past initial RWS logo
Medium settings, 70% display resolution
Some blurry textures on NPCs
Game wouldn't load back up past the intro video after initial install and load.
Don't recommend, when it does run initially it runs poorly. But then eventually doesn't run at all.
RWS logo plays, after that dark screen.

Does not run
Not working on my setup, I might have done something wrong but in general it's not a user friendly experience. Tips on how to get in running are welcome.
Not an enjoyable experience due to stability issue (Alpha 0.5.0 w/ Proton GE 6.21)
Hardly playable, 20 fps with huge drops (lowest settings)

Game is stuck at black screen after splash art
Prerequisites install without problem and the splash art shows but then the game is stuck at a black screen forever.
Alpha version of the game works fine just less fps than compared to windows.
fps drop

I use Oibaf PPA, Steam BETA and Proton-Experimental

6.10-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Out of the box UE4 Prerequisites Setup will always fail. To work around this, replace UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe in POSTAL4/Engine/Extras/Redist/en-us with any win32 executable that returns a success code - a simple "Hello World" executable will do just fine.
Proton-GE 6.10 provides a slightly better experience than vanilla Proton 6.3 - albeit the latter works, too, some cutscenes and lighting effects appear to be broken.
Occasional Z-fighting occurs on some surfaces - unsure if this is due to Proton or the alpha state of the game
Switching fullscreen resolution from 1080p or 720p while ingame to any other resolution in between causes a black screen. Switching resolution works as expected in the main menu. Unsure if this is due to Proton or the alpha state of the game
Game largely runs as expected on my hardware, however the framerate tanks to the single-digits upon opening the map and stays there after exiting the map screen. The only reliable fix is exiting to the main menu and reloading, afaik.
Glad to have POSTAL 4 working again on Linux. Still working on covering it's support for future game versions.
Workaround for the UE4 redistributable installer found by Justin. https://steamcommunity.com/app/707030/discussions/0/3080998989603834402/ More details here but in a nutshell, you need to replace the UE4 redistributable installer by a VC+ redist 2015 x86 installer, so it tricks the UE4 check to install it instead and pass the installation.
Very minor performance difference on the current build, compared to running it on Windows on the same Hard-drive and rig. Only really a difference of 1~2 frames and a generally slower loading of textures and models.

had to manually install vcrun2019
UE4 prerequisites broke game. That can be solves using winetricks vcrun2019

Worked fine until the 0.3.1.1 update. Fails on UE4 prerequisites
Tried a few tricks too from other games having similar issues - nothing solves it (cancelling installers, whole bag of launch options). Proton version has no bearing.
Thanks to the latest update which introduced the UE4 Prerequisite installer its not working anymore.
The game worked perfectly until the latest update.

As reported in QA, The 0.3.1.1 update is borked, and they haven’t answered.
I have been accepted in RWS private QA testing as the only GNU/Linux tester, to test its compatibility with it. Despite reporting the worked update being borked due to an unskippable UE4 redistributable installer, they did nothing for it. More detail on the P4 Proton Github Issue page.
Running, pretty much as janky as Windows.
Expected from an Early Access Unreal 4 title. Happen on Windows builds as well. RWS are still working on it. I’m helping them as a GNU/Linux QA tester, and work on improving the game compatibility and performance via Proton, until a native Linux port is made.
Some important framerate loss can happen, when loading saves. The reason is still relatively unknown, and seems to be related to game cached loaded levels not unloading the previous one. Restarting, or just going back to the menu to reload the save fix it.
Runs okay at 5120x1440 on max settings.
Mirrors don't work
Some stuttering when loading in and entering new areas. Likely shader compilation. Performance is generally not great, but it's about what you'd expect from an alpha.

The game runs flawlessly (aside from alpha jankiness) with the mentioned fixes. Several hours of gameplay without problems.
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
To fix missing cutscenes, use GloriousEggroll's proton fork. To fix missing game audio, use protontricks to set Wine to win7: protontricks 707030 win7
. Game runs perfect after these fixes.
No audio in the game or menus
After you fix those two issues, and accept that at the current state of the game, It is pretty janky. Then, I suppose it should be fine,
You need to do protontricks 707030 win7
to fix the sounds issue. mf-install is still required for video cutscenes to work. The latest can be substituted with the latest version of proton-ge.
That's early Access for you. Still think it runs a tad bit worse than on Windows native.
