Lot lower scored than Windows
Only Fire Strike works fully Night Raid works partially Time Spy and Steel Nomad just get stuck on a black screen before throwing 'An error occurred'
Considering most people play this game with the settings turned down at low resolutions I'd say absolutely.
Full screen is not real full screen, can move cursor to other monitor
No crossplatform saves, windows key bindings/gameplay/graphics settings were reset, game stats and unlocks worked fine.
Stutters while shaders compile, only for a few seconds at most
Could choose Good but i'll do Acceptable as there are more stutters than i'd accept on windows, depends on how little tolerance you have towards it i guess.
Tested at 3440x1440 all maxed out graphics settings, 110 FOV, dynamic res off
BFG Edition is unplayable

Most of the time it does not launch, and the few times that it did upon loading a save for the second time or moving from one level to the next will completely glitch the graphics where only some lights show up on a completely black screen, tried different Proton version, when it did launch I tried different graphics settings, nothing.
DOOM The Dark Ages works out of the box on day 0 with the exception of Nvidia Frame Generation, activating which will prevent the game from booting until all config and save files are deleted. Everything else works. 70-80 FPS usually at 3440x1440 All Ultra Nightmare 4GB Textures Reflex Boost DLAA/DLSS Quality doesn't really affect performance. First time with Proton Experimental it did not want to boot, switched to Proton 9, it did boot but 3X/4X frame gen wasn't showing up (its broken anyways), on second boot 3D graphics did not load with Proton 9, changed back to Experimental and it boots now every time and everything works well.
Crashes after 30-40 minutes usually
Runs pretty well aside the crashes, heard DX11 would stop crashing, but it can't use DLSS/RTX and performance is worse, I don't play long enough sessions so I prefer the higher performance at the cost of occasional crashes.
DX12 Epic Preset DLSS4 Performance Prioritize Speed Reflex On RTX Off 3440x1440 80-90 FPS in real gameplay 107Avg 136Max 75Min on benchmark
Proton 7.0rc3-GE1
Unplayable lag when looking around
Neither Proton 6.3/Experimental or Proton 7.0rc3-GE1 provide a playable enough experience at 3440x1440 at Ultra settings. 25%/100% res scale does no difference. Online matches have unplayable input lag when looking around, custom games against bots have lag too but it's quite a bit more bearable.
Sometimes audio crackles, usually right before the game locks up the entire system which happenes sometimes
Sometimes the lighting can be glitched on certain parts of certain maps, happens pretty rarely
Mouse input is often less responsive than it should be, can be sometimes inaccurate, beyond 125Hz mouse polling rate its unplayable due to missed inputs. Sometimes mouse key bound weapons including on the scroll wheel click do not register, if middle click scrolling is enabled in KDE you can't look around for the duration of the middle mouse button being held down. DirectX Input sometimes seems slightly more responsive than Raw Input. The cursor will disappear in menus after a match regardless of settings, alt-tabing restores it.
Runs well often except when it doesn't, its pretty unpredictable, there are random frame drops and stutters sometimes, even when there arent it often feels less responsive than Windows, other times it runs perfectly. Often like 20-30 FPS slower than Windows. 3440x1440 Everything Ultra except High textures 90% res scale, lowering settings does not improve performance, in fact it can often lower it a lot. Alt-tabbing can sometimes lower performance in-match. Performance sometimes seems to tank after like 30+ mins of play, restarting the game usually fixes it.
Sometimes ping is higher than on Windows, issues could be due to performance or networking issues with Proton, either way same end result the game is always online so impossible to know for sure.
I've been testing it back to back with Windows nearly daily for 4 months, Proton 9.0.3/4 seems to work best most of the time, older wont run, many versions of GE ran significantly worse, GE9-21 seems okay but more issues than 9.0.3 just like Experimental. Tried various launch commands which didn't seem to do anything. Various driver versions, NVidia closed kernel modules without GSP performs the best, X seems to run a bit better but sometimes I had slightly better results on Wayland. Definitely much better than the slideshow I had last time I tried, I can put up with some issues, I know the game well enough a slight stutter is not the end of the world, I can at least play it on Linux at all now instead of being forced to reboot but it's definitely not a flawless and especially reliable experience. It also seems to have gotten worse with time, I had it working well after like the first ~2 weeks or so, ~70+% near identical performance, rare stutters, meanwhile now it runs well like ~35% of the time? Way less near perfect, way more random frame drops, random input lag, etc. All within the same game update so I think it's Proton/driver/linux/etc that screws with it.
Runs exactly like on Windows with the default 125FPS cap, barely drops below, pretty much perfect.
Error
The program encountered E111000B at 00001883 during initialization.
Wine, Proton, and Steam Deck are not supported by this application!
I guess if you're fine with the performance hit/have the hardware to brute force it or are willing to turn settings down further
Windowed mode is still full screen
Windows usually runs close to 60FPS with drops to 40s, Linux runs at 40 at most with frequent drops below 30, its playable but definitely less enjoyable
It works just performs worse, if you're willing to accept lower settings/FPS or have overkill hardware it might work well. Tried both Proton 9-0-3 and Experimental bleeding edge, both run exactly the same, with Experimental the menu for the first few minutes was frozen at 1FPS. Ingame performance is the same. Also with both, ray tracing option is completely grayed out. There is a error popup about single channel memory performance degradation when entering the initial menu. Tested at Medium preset with DLSS Balanced at 3440x1440.
