Game runs perfectly out of the box
I tried using the recent Proton 5.13
version, and when launching the game, Steam says it is running, but the screen just freezes and the game never seems to have launched.
Running the game using Proton 5.0-9
with the option Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool
solves all issues and makes the game run perfectly.
The game works perfectly out-of-the-box
Cleared the game without any issues.
Game works out-of-the-box with the recommended Proton version (6.3-8 at the time of writing)
Alt+Tab does not work. The game automatically focuses back to itself.
Only have played DRG on multiplayer with friends, always with a full party. Never experienced any problems on any of the playthoughs.
DRG was always launched using DX11. Have not tested on DX12 or Safe Mode.
Game works out-of-the-box for singleplayer, and is identical to playing on Windows, including the performance issues.
Game stutters and drops fps from time to time, but this is inherent to the game itself, and not Proton. These stutters are also present in the Windows version.
The only tinkering I did was force the use of Proton Experimental. Did not try multiplayer.
The game works almost perfecly, and the performance issues I had are also present if playing on Windows. The game did crash once, but it was while confirming a fast-travel location(very common task), and it did not happen again up until the time of writing this report.
Game works out-of-the-box with the latest stabel Proton release (8.0-3 at the time of writing)
Having played over 20 hours already, with the longest playthrough had more than 4 hours, and Alt+Tabbing from time to time, I had no crashes whatsoever and no significant slowdowns on my machine, even with many enemies on the screen.
Performance on Wine used to be a problem with 0.5, but 0.6 uses the YoYo Compiler to generate machine code, and with this change performance became basically the same as the Windows version.
Steam achievements are properly obtained by copying your previous save file to the correct Steam location (just search "holocure steam save file").
Game runs perfectly out of the box
Other reports mention stutters or using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
, but I just pressed Play
and everything worked fine. No additional setup, no problems with audio, video, fullscreen or alt-tabbing. Nothing,
Reccetear works almost perfectly out-of-the-box, with protontricks solving the BGM not looping issue
Include the following via protontricks: directmusic
# protontricks <APPID> <MODULES> [...]
protontricks 70400 directmusic
Without protontricks, Reccetear BGM runs a single loop and stops. All other features works as expected (character voices, SFX, etc).
Also, keep in mind Reccetear is an old doujin/indie game, so the audio "crackling" is actually just a high pitch high volume BGM.
You can definitely play Reccetear without using protontricks
, but the BGM missing makes the dungeon exploration feel empty without it, especially because you will be spending a good time in the dungeon exploring in pure silence. I definitely recommend using protontricks
to fix this.
Game runs perfectly. After the initial setup, it ran fine for 3 hours without any bugs or crashes. This setup only needs to be done once.
My video card is a bit old and does not support Vulkan.
Game crashes if you try to launch the game in a resolution bigger than your monitor and in full screen. Both the conditions need to be met, so launching in windowed mode or with a resolution smaller than your monitor in full screen is fine.

The game itself works perfectly. Check your window resolution, edit some options in the Configuration Tool, add JP locale, and that's it.

Important note: the base game has some issues with replay desync. This is a problem in the game, and is not related to Proton.
My final Launch Command on Steam is
LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 %command%
If you're using on a non-60 Hz setup, Input Method (入力のレイテンシ) needs to be set to "Fast" (高速) or the game will run at the wrong speed. All details about the setup I did are available at https://gist.github.com/kazuyanakamura/85c85bc62ac5a10646c24b6b7cf7c134
Had to install vcrun2022
in order to launch the game
Instructions available at the protontricks repository
Just launching without any tinkering will fail to initialize the game.
To launch the game, you need to install protontricks
. It should be pretty simple, and including vcrun2022
to the game prefix should not be a challenge.
After the addition of vcrun2022
, I was able to clear the game in one sitting of about 5 hours, so no issues even for medium to long sessions.
Runs perfectly, given some conditions. All information: https://gist.github.com/kazuyanakamura/85c85bc62ac5a10646c24b6b7cf7c134
If your monitor resolution is smaller than the game's offered sizes, running the game in fullscreen mode will crash the game. Using either windowed mode or fullscreen with a lower resolution works fine.
For example, mine is 1360x768, and the resolutions the game offered were
- 1280x960 (default)
- 960x720
- 640x480
As you can see, the default height does not fit on my monitor, so running it in fullscreen crashes the game(as written in the log file). Running the default in windowed mode runs fine, and running the other options in full screen works fine too.
Game works perfectly out-of-the-box, you just need to make sure about the window resolution you are using.

Worked out-of-the-box after adding the launch option. I played in windowed mode, but there should be no problems playing in fullscreen.
Unless this flag is enabled, the game will glitch whenever you use a bomb in the game, but the game keeps running in the background
Open properties and add the following to the launch options
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
and everything should work fine later. During the 1 hour playthrough I cleared the game, saved the run and replayed it in the same session without any issues.
