Had to switch Proton on and off for the game to work, otherwise it results in the 'wayland not found' error or instantly crashes upon launch
Switching Protong on and off refreshes some of your files, which forces you to reinstall Everest every time you want to play modded Celeste - it doesn't affect your mods or save files but it's still annoying (This problem may be related to the games' cloud saves from Windows)
Starts on the wrong monitor when using wayland, I am able to move the game to the other monitor using shortcuts, but when changing focus to other windows, the game goes back to the wrong monitor
Starts on the wrong monitor - unable to permanently set primary monitor
Playable but still needs some polish
Audio goes out of sync the more you play, can be fixed by switching to some other audio device and then back in the audio settings
Really bad screen tearing and model stutters in the main menu
Encountered minor screen tearing during gameplay, especially when spraying
Tried changing graphics settings and specifying different launch options - nothing helps
Icons-Only Task Manager is visible when in fullscreen on KDE with Wayland, fixed by changing to windowed fullscreen
Flickering Steam overlay, unable to interact with it in any way
Performs better than Windows
Alt-tabbing right after accepting the match can cause Task Manager to show on top of the game in KDE under Wayland, fixed by switching fullscreen off and on again
DXVK_HUD=compiler __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 %command%
The game is playable as is, but there are a number of issues that require some tinkering.
Here's the issues and their correspoding fixes summarized:
- Poor performance during the first 5-10 minutes of gameplay due to shaders recompiling every game launch. The
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1
env variable fixes the issue - The game freezes or crashes randomly, usually after spawning/respawning. Selecting Proton 8.0 prevents these crashes from happening
- Poor performance overall, fps lower than 60 and random stutters. Deleting the game's wine prefix (usually located at
$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/APP_ID
) fixed this for me
Also the DXVK_HUD=compiler
env variable toggles a helpful shader compilation status overlay at the bottom-left corner of your screen
Good
Fullscreen causes minor stutters on Wayland, works fine in X11
Works only with Proton under Wayland
