Works as intended, no FPS drops, runs with the default Proton version at the time of writing this.
Started up until menu, but a 'CD Key' error when trying to launch any kind of gamemode
-windowed
After doing my best to experiment with configuration files, I could not find how exactly it searches for a CD key or what part is causing the CD key detection to fail. It works fine on Windows. Shame because this would be a great game to run on Linux. I will report this to the developers and see if they will be able to advise anything and I will provide a new report if necessary.
If the launcher doesn't show, go into the correct compatdata folder (you can find the compatdata ID by using 'protontricks --gui') and in the 'My Games' folder is the FFXIV installation, there is a FFXIV_BOOT.cfg file where you should change the 'Browser' value from '2' to '1' to fix this.
If the game freezes after selecting a datacenter, you can find FFXIV.cfg in the same folder and change the 'CutsceneMovieOpening' value from '0' to '1'.
If you are getting this error: "A system error has occurred: -2147467263 javacscipt:ctrEvent('mainform')" when trying to login through the launcher, you can fix this by pressing the ENTER key on your keyboard, instead of clicking on the login button. Whether this happens on Windows as well I'm not sure but I have only ever experienced it on Linux.
Other than the tweaks mentioned above, when you are in the game it plays no differently to my Windows setup, good FPS and no visual/audio glitches.
Did not work on the default Proton, although I'm not sure what version that is. I just selected Proton 9 (the latest available) and it worked fine. The default Proton would come up with the Unity crash window.
Game does not run, shows black screen.
However it doesn't seem to freeze as you can still access Steam overlay etc?
Runs exactly the same as on Windows
Played for a few hours on Windows, and then ran a new save game on Linux to get as close of a comparison as possible, and both had the exact same result.
Installed wmp11 from programs/DLLs. This solves the issue with the game hanging after selecting an OS.
The end of audio clips cut out early but this does not affect gameplay
If you have permission errors when installing wmp11, make sure you have Proton 5.0 selected. Or you could try chmod -R 777 the prefix folder where the compatdata is for the game.
Runs exactly the same as if on Windows
Game runs as it would on Windows, having played for hundreds of hours, it has the exact same issues as Windows does so it seems to work great (even with old saves transferred over).
Added "PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command%" without the quotes to the game's startup parameters to allow the installer (which loads when starting the game for the first time) to have enough disk space to install. For some reason it closed after about 1 minute and I had to start the game again, but it went right to the patching stage of the launcher and let me run the game as normal without any issues. Runs smoothly at Windows-quality FPS.
Runs the same as Windows, with the same issues that occurs on the Windows version (multiplayer fixes etc)
Game does not scale on its own in fullscreen, only scales its native resolution on the top-left of your screen. You can set it to windowed mode in the 'toon.ini' file and also add 'gfx_mode=2x' underneath [toon] to double the scaling if you need it.
Whilst the game uses ScummVM, which is native to Linux, this game in particular does not ship with the Linux version of ScummVM for some reason, so you can either open the game's data with your own ScummVM installation, or force the use of Proton through the Steam game settings.
Works straight away with the default Proton settings, so a beginner Linux user would be able to run this game without any knowledge required
Visuals and audio are exactly as they would be on Windows. Same FPS and no flaws.
