Started up until menu, but a 'CD Key' error when trying to launch any kind of gamemode

After doing my best to experiment with configuration files, I could not find how exactly it searches for a CD key or what part is causing the CD key detection to fail. It works fine on Windows. Shame because this would be a great game to run on Linux. I will report this to the developers and see if they will be able to advise anything and I will provide a new report if necessary.

The game seems to load, there is a black screen and then it closes
I tried with the default config on steam at the time of writing this. Then I tried 4.11 and 4.2 (I saw the other people here got it working with 4.2.6) but none of them worked.
I had to launch with -windowed (a guess) because fullscreen had resolution issues that prevented me from even seeing the menus. Windowed mode worked fine. I could only avoid issues by going fullscreen at specifically native resolution (1440p in my case). I don't know if this was due to have multiple monitors or what.
The game seems to work just fine now.
The menu works, but the game doesn't. You are not able to start a game because of an invalid CD key error. You can't even start the tutorial.
