Limit TDP 5W - 60 fps stable and long battery life! =)
Native Linux-version great working out-of-the-box

only using "-console -novid" (to skip video intro)
When I click on Play, it shows Launching and then automatically closes the game. Proton (7, 8 and Experience) can still play normally

I've played this game successfully in the past, but the recent update seems to have broken something. I've reinstalled the game, removed all addons, and reverified game files to make sure it wasn't my local install. L4D2 is only working in proton for the time being. Proton works well, but you are unable to play online with VAC secured servers using proton. I hope an update is pushed to fix this as the game is still marked Verified.
Works perfectly without frame drops with or without mods.
Using Proton, game will not connect to a Multiplayer session on Valve dedicated server. It will give "Remove Plug-ins before connecting to VAC secure servers" warning.
Local host connections do not have any trouble.
Playing L4D2 on native Linux on the Steam Deck is the way to go. Proton, even with the latest patch, GE or Experimental, will not run Multiplayer. If choosing Proton, the game can only be played either Singleplayer or local co-op.
Multiplayer is as good as the normal experience; nothing out of the ordinary to report or complain about.
I've played several campaigns with the Steam Deck, both in handheld and while docked and playing on a large display. It works just as great as I would on a Windows setup.
That said, there were very rare occurrences of the game crashing to desktop without any error messages. It's very hard to reproduce and I've only experienced it twice after several hours of play, so I'm not sure what exactly causes the crash.

Amazing experience out of the box, though I would recommend adding "-vulkan" to your launch options, as that would fix that barely noticable screen stutter when moving your head in the game.
Default controller config includes Gyro which I turned off. Invert Y-Axis in the options menu doesn't work - you need to change this in the controller layout.
I play with some supremely stupid mods and some require console commands to work properly on any platform (specifically sv_consistency 0). THIS IS NOT A LIMITATION OF LINUX. IT'S HOW THE MOD WORKS. To my surprise, running these commands was just fine on the deck, no issues whatsoever. To play multiplayer with consistency off you have to locally host, which I did over wifi and no parties had any lag, again with over 200 mods.
I shelved L4D2 for months because after an update all my mods crashed game on PC. All my subscriptions worked out of box on deck. I guess patches were made because everything works on pc now too again. Anyway, deserves platinum. My expectations for mod functionality were 0 and they function 100/100.
