If you run on specifically GE-Proton7-49 everything should be fine. I can promise you any other version WILL have prominent issues.
If you do NOT use specifically GE Proton 7-49 the game will not function properly. Green lines for random areas and spots and outlining characters and enemies along with crashing and at the very worst some fixes will say other versions will stop these issues, but a separate issue is for a tricolor with static underneath tv screen gif texture will replace the room environment in the projector room in the castle for unknown reasons.
crashes occasionally at random periods when running on default.
I originally ran this game using a separate version of proton that seemed to fix the strange green lines and crashes. I wish I could remember the reason what version but for whatever reason it caused the projector room in the castle to not have a visible environment, for some reason it was replaced with a weird tv signal tricolor with static that made navigation impossible in the room. I'll make the screenshot I took visible on my steam profile but it was weird.
Anyway GE proton7-49 will fix the crashing, green lines and now THAT issue and works perfectly fine. No clue why, but it's the only version that seems to work.

installed wmp11
one crash in a few hours play time

That's why you need to use GE-Proton7-49. It's the only proton that fixs the strange green lines
I'm play at 60 fps. Steam Performace tab: Disabled Frame Limit, Allow tearing On, TDP Limit 12 Watts. In Game: Shadows and Texture Quality at High, Anti-Aliasing at FX-AA3HQ, 60 FPS, 60 Hz, VSync off

Some text is too small and/or too thin for the screen.
Make sure to use the latest version of GE-Proton for the best experience. And if you're like me and hate that there's no item box, download this mod here: https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil0biohazard0hdremaster/mods/39

powertools powersave cpu governor -> persistent profile on
colored line glitches after unlocking second character
I tried GEProton7-49, GEProton7-18, proton official 9, proton official 8, proton official 7, hotfix and experimental, nothing fixes the glitches anymore as it used to before.

TDP 10W, GPU Freq. 1200MHz
Shows as not compatible, but works OOT in Steam Deck without tinkering anything. However, after unlocking the second character (20 minutes after new game) red artifacts appear on the train level with lightning glitches. Using Proton-GE 7-49 is needed to play it without this issue.
This game makes the steam deck go crazy, forcing the CPU, throttling the system and draining battery. It does not hold 60FPS with the default settings, however, this settings make the game play perfectly, at 60FPS with no slowdowns and amazing battery performance:
TDP settings: 10-12W. GPU Clock: 1000-1200MHz
For full screen without black bars:
Resolution: 1280x720, Windowed Scalling options: Fill

can confirm with 7-49 you need to wait during steam loading screen at least 5 minutes. then it exited automatically, upon relaunch the game worked as normal and all the visual bugs were no longer present in the train level

decky - powertools governor powersave, or the game runs at 100% throttle when it's unnecessary
To fix red lines on train after second character is introduced, GE-Proton7-49.
BE PATIENT - had to wait 5 minutes on first launch (spinning steam logo) to boot this version of proton-GE. It's likely silently doing a 2GB shader cache download.

Changed right trackpad to mouse so the cursor (always visible) could be moved to corner of screen where it is not visible.
Used powertools plugin through Decky Loader to force 'powersave' governor. Without it, game ramps up CPU for no good reason.
Took a bit to find a GE-Proton version that did not result in visual artifacts when the train starts moving (after you gain second character). Some people reported 7-49 working but only 7-18 resulted in an artifact free experience for me. Powertools (powersave governor) necessary to prevent crazy thermals on deck.

PowerTools -> CPU Governor to 'powersave' > enable Persistent Profile. otherwise the game will always max out the cpu frequency without need
To play in proper 4:3 mode on the Deck screen without windowboxing, set the resolution to 1920x800 windowed, open steam OS quick settings and set scaling mode to zoom. Cutscenes still have windowboxing though.
Mouse cursor stays on screen and is very annoyeing, there's a mod to hide it.

TDP Limit 12w
Audio stutter when returning from sleep
Not a good setup to start and play on the deck. Requires installing a specific ProtonGE to avoid graphical glitches and crashes. Then it pulls all the juice out of the deck to maintain 60fps. 12w was the best I could find to keep locked 60fps, but it still runs hot with ~2:00 battery time. Emulating the GC version might be an easier option, even if using doorskip cheat.

Used protontricks to install wmp-11
Game crashed once during playthrough
Proton GE 7-49 did not startup when launched, however I did not encounter issues with the current GE version once I installed wmp11 using protontricks

- TDP Target 7w
- GPU Core Target 800-900 MHz
No bugs at all, just needs Proton GE 7-49, and a steam input config.

Works perfectly well, but ONLY with GE-Proton7-49. Any other version will either fail to launch, or have graphical artifact or crash.
The first launch can take some time depending on your internet connection, as it will download approx. 2Go of components required for the game to run

In the scene where I go on the roof of the train for the first time, the entire background becomes colored stripes (like the no signal screen of cable TV). I tried to ignore it and continue playing, which immediately resulted in the game becoming unresponsive.
In the cut scenes, the visuals frequently freeze while the audio plays smoothly, causing an increasing amount of delay between the visuals and the audio.
After having no success with either Proton8.0-3 or GE-Proton7-49, I tried Proton Experimental, which at the time of this report is based on Proton 8.0. It works much better than the former two, almost leading me to believe I could finish the game with it. I'm glad I held off writing a report here, because it turned out a failure too.

I followed the advice from multiple previous ProtonDB reports and forced the compatibility layer to GE-Proton7-49 (installed for Steam via ProtonUp-Qt), but cannot launch the game. The loading screen shows an animated Valve logo at the center, with STEAM MENU
at the bottom left and ABORT GAME
at the bottom right.
Using the default Proton8.0-3, I can launch the game, but the first cut scene (and I can safely assume, all the cut scenes in the game) cannot play correctly. The issues described in this Reddit thread seem to be the same as mine: https://old.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xzuvey/tried_playing_resident_evil_0_on_my_steam_deck/

On GE-Proton7-49 runs perfect. Other versions give problems on audio during videos
Works great, but you needs to use GE-Proton7-49 specifically. At the time of writing, any newer version of GE-Proton will result in some corrupt backgrounds (any that are functionally FMVs, like the first save room). If you use this specific Proton version, it will play fine.
Green lines on the train section
Crashed upon wake from sleep and reset the device
Gpu clock 800 TPD 9 Watts
With GE 7-49 no colored line in the train area. runs perfectly. Please note that the first launch of the game will take a good a min stuck on the steam logo, be patient. After that the game should start normally. If you used another proton version before and want to use 7-49 now, before launching the game go to the options, "developer" and "delete proton files" or the game wil probably not start at all.
8w is perfect
The game works perfectly with proton GE 7-18 I was able to finish the game with no problem. Thx reddit
Plays perfectly with default Proton, including videos. Draws a lot of battery though, despite low CPU/GPU usage.
Gpu clock 600, TPD 9 Watts
diagonal lines in certain rooms after obtaining second character
Gamepad configs treat A button as Down
Runs fine on the deck for me, including videos. The video options let me set 1280x800, but the game still seems to play in 720.
