Gameplay was perfect
Trying to close the game just froze it on the spot, leaving it fullscreened and wouldn't close unlessed pkill. Also even though my screen is set to 144hz it vsynced into 60 fps
Only issue was closing the game, it froze completely and needed to be pkilled.

Enjoyable, but too many game breaking bugs for long runs
Game freezes/locks up when an enemy activate spikestrip.
Game crashes upon attacking the elite elder lemurian guarding the miner.
Game crashes when certain elite mobs spawn after playing the game for a very long time.
It's possible to get stuck in a wall when moving too fast or using blink with the huntress.

Seems like if fullscreen is not forced by KDE after alt+tab the game can squeeze into top left corner. With fullscreen forced by KDE it's not fully full. That's game's problem tho
With default proton, it doesn't start. Experimental is extremely broken, with GE it works completely fine, better than native.

Make sure to enjoy the soundtracks while going nuts in this game. Works great on steam deck
When launching applications might make the game screen to the smallest.
Local Coop is great but the characters are small to see what is happening.
Good to go.
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
Tienes que activar el mando desde el menu de opciones
Solamente tienes que activar en el menudo la opción de mando si usaras un control de ahí funciona bien y puedes jugarlo con su mod starstorm
Game speed is bound to FPS. Don't use frame limiter.
I recommend changing the right TrackPad as mouse with left click to better navigate through menus.
I recommend changing right TrackPad as mouse and left mouse click to better navigate through menus.
When you try to re-map the buttons, they are recognized as controller ones. When you launch the level, it uses keyboard input regardless. Tried multiple input layouts without any result.
after alt tabbing and alt tabbing back in the game appers in a extremely low resolution in upper left corner
Works great on Steam Deck out of the box... not sure why its currently listed as unsupported.
Some text is very small and could be difficult to read.
By Default Gamepad support is disabled in the game. You can easily turn this on, just have to know to do it.
The Linux native version won't sync my save-game from my Windows based systems. I also read that there could be a game-breaking bug in that version anyway.
Just be aware of this. I'm using the Proton version so I can interchange between my systems.
On Steam Deck can't sync cloud saves with Windows version. Native may still have game breaking bug.
The above mentioned hard freeze bug can be very frustrating until the pattern behind it becomes clear.
To use the controller, I had to set up a custom Steam Input controller mapping, making the controller emulate the keyboard.
Picking up the Spike Strip item will hard freeze the game in short order (apparently when taking damage while holding the item, that's plausible). This prevents 100% completion of the game, since it does not save having picked up the item when it freezes.
Playing this game on the same system using Proton Experimental works very well and allows to play past this bug. I've submitted a complementing report about this game using Proton; this also includes a quick description on how to transfer the save file.
The Linux native version of this game has a breaking bug - picking up the Spike Strip will freeze the game within short order (apparently when taking damage, that's plausible).
That's why I chose the Proton approach and can confirm that it's possible to play past the Spike Strip freeze bug in this way.
Some tips about transferring the save file from the native version to the Proton version:
- It's located in ~/.config/Risk_of_Rain native, in the game install directory for Proton
- On native, it's saved as lower-case 'save.ini', on Proton it's 'Save.ini'; Linux FS is case aware so both can exist - i.e. rename to upper case starting letter
- The INI format is slightly different, the native version saves values within quotes like item61="1.000000"; the Proton version expects unquoted values like item61=1.000000
- This can be easily achieved by replacing all quote characters with nothing (removing them) using any editor's replace function. The string values for ; only the string values for use_list and arch_enemy_list are also saved unquoted.
Proton-7.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Game appears to run without issue except for a bug causing elite enemies to lack their palette swap. Installing RoRML fixes this issue.
Installed Risk of Rain Mod Loader (without any mods)
Elites do not render with their palette swap.

Improves graphic performance
Elite mobs look identical to normal ones
Game required use of Proton 5.0-10 to run for me
The game has huge performance problems. It slows down even on low and makes the experience less enjoyable. However, this command fixed all that letting me run it without a hitch.
There's no way to distinguish normal enemies from elite ones. The elite enemies have the same sprite and their health bar is not surrounded in a white border as it should. Other than that no issues.
The native version is effectively broken since it has parts where the game consistently crashes and is in general really unstable. The game tends to crash with many things on the screen, or always crashes when unlocking the Miner for instance. Playing with Proton is required, assume there's no native version.
Launch parameter: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Works better than native.
It seems to slow down when there are more than 30 enemies on screen such as in the final level.
The native version does not allow for using a steam controller or switch controller due to a bug I cannot figure out how to work around.
En caso no funcione por que tu equipo no es compatible con vulkan usar esta variable:
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

Elites don't have a unique sprite.
Elites don't have their unique sprite, but they act the same in all other respects.
If you have problems running RoR natively run it under proton.
Will ONLY work with an Xbox 360 controller. I have tried to use an Xbox one V2 over Bluetooth but the game is not able to map the controller and most of the buttons is not working/doing the wrong actions. I have only tested the 360 controller using a cheap 3rd party dongle for 360 controllers and it works flawlessly.
Some slowdowns when large amounts of enemies is on the screen when running on high graphics. Setting graphics to medium solved it for me.
Under proton I get my cloud save, no crashes and only minimal issues with slowdowns when graphics is set to high. Allover a good experience.
Game would just crash after being open for a minute or two

The native build crashes when spikestrips are picked up, and has no cloud saving. The Proton version works perfectly, including spikestrips and cloud saving.

Steam Cloud does not work, everything else works perfectly, better than native.

Does not start in any fashion

Window either doesn't open or opens a blank white window, game always crashes a few seconds after launching. I tried most of the tweaks.

Works perfectly fine
