It's a bit annoying to have the cutscenes being sluggish, but you can ignore them and play the game
Proton 9.0-4
Cutscenes and videos wouldn't play properly
The start menu came as a black screen, it disappeared with a mouse click

Other than character loading issue, game is enjoyable and stable. I have been running at 30fps but have no reason to doubt it will run 60+
A few voicelines don't play, unsure if this occurs on windows.
Character loading issues occur almost every time when entering new areas/using fast travel. Base wanderer model will load, active weapon icon will display the base sword and no relics load. Can't dash/climb/attack/use relics/switch weapons until loading completes, which can take a very long time sometimes.
Could be an issue with my system, but never happened on Win11.
All tinkering I have done is trying to address the character loading issue, I have tried Proton Hotfix/Experimental/9.0-4/GE-9-27 and all have the issue.

I tried running the game without setting a Proton version but it complaints about graphics (A D3D11-compatible GPU (Feature Level 11.0, Shader Model 5.0) is required to run the engine). After setting compatibility Proton to 9.0-4 it works perfectly. It does takes some time to boot when you hit Play, but once is up, eveything runs as expected. When logging in there some black windows but after some seconds it goes away. I've set the DX11 option in the launcher per recommend here in ProtonDB by user tjandra. I did not used MangoHUD, so no launch options were set.

You need at least proton GE 10-3 to be able to play the video cutscenes.. or you need to install video codec using protontricks!
Also for best performance, enable DX11 mode on the ToF game launcher!

The Launch options are just for displaying MangoHUD overlay ingame. Also use of GameMode for CPU optimizations, change CPU governor for better performance and process renicing and is recommended for AMD Ryzen CPUs with 3D V-Cache (espically with more than one CCX-Die) and Intel Core i/Core/Core Ultra CPUs with big.LITTLE technology. But the game can also be started and played w/o these Launch options, you won't have any significant downsides.

THE GAME IS NOW OFFICALY SUPPORTED https://www.reddit.com/r/TowerofFantasy/comments/1kb5q59/about_tower_of_fantasy_on_linuxsteamdeck/
FUCK YEAH

Some voice lines do not play, FMVs are very, very quiet compared to the rest of the game.
Color me surprised. Even if I don't like the game myself, I am very surprised the devs did a complete 180 and allowed this game to run on Linux without much fuss. Should mention that I did not have success running this game under regular Proton - the game would default to a black window after the launcher starts, but with GE Proton - runs absolutely flawlessly.
Seriously surprised.

While logging in there are a lot of overlay windows that doesn't work the same way as on Windows, so you might need to move them a bit.
Game works absolutely well without any modifications

when trying to use web (as in web events) it runs extremely and some times can go black screen for a few seconds, just hit escc and it goes back to the game

sometimes you need to switch from experimental to 9.0 and it loads again

broken again
fuck reddit cucks

The game is fully playable. I haven't tested the payment platform yet, so I'll check it out when I get the chance.

When the login window appears in-game, for example, asking to log in to your account, the background screen goes black. This isn't bothersome at all; it clears up as soon as the window closes.
I suppose it is also playable without using Steam, downloading the launcher outside of Steam directly from the page and installing it normally.

Will run and play from steam out of the box for now, might change later as some files might accidentaly not be working as intended

Finally playable.
Cursor escapes from the game's UI when using a multi-monitor setup.
Slight stuttering in performance when the textures in another world loads up. Performance improves overtime.
After the game's server rework and updates, this game is finally playable.

On top of that, it runs perfectly fine without any tinkering.
Furthermore performance is quite remarkable: highest graphical settings (ray tracing included, on radeon gpu btw) gives smooth 120fps at 2560x1440. Most cerainly it could be better, however there is no "uncapped fps" setting in game, so I can only assume 150-160fps max from GPU usage

Installed wmp11 component
MP4 videos playback (used by the game in various stages, from the initial boot animation to in-game tutorial videos) need wmp11 component and probably also K-Lite codecs pack.
Installing both fixed the issue, needs further testing due to the massive MP4 content that the game downloads (7ish GB)
Other than the MP4 codec issue, there aren't any other bugs or issues.

MP4 Video cutscenes fail to play due to probably missing codecs
Works out of the box

Works fine when running in steam with Proton 9
Nothing is wrong idk

Don't even bother trying to run it.
The devs intentionally make the game incompatible with proton even though it's a F2P gacha game.
https://areweanticheatyet.com/game/tower-of-fantasy : Anti cheat not compatible.

Got the launcher, but nothing else
If you switch to Experimental, you're able to get the launcher going. You can even log in and everything seems like it's ready to launch. But when you actually launch the game, the launcher crashes and everything stops. Going to agree with others, the anti-cheat software blocking this game from Proton (for now) is really dumb. Why does an anime gacha need anti-cheat software?
The launcher opens, but actually trying to launch the game just crashes the launcher entirely.

Can Install and open launcher menu then login to account using steam account. But unable to play.
Install this game and using Proton Experimental via steam. Can Open the launcher menu then login via Steam Account. But unable to play with it: the game will force to close when you launch the game. I think it need open as admin privilage since in Windows you must open this game as admin. But I cannot figure out how to open it as admin with proton.
Game does not even launch

You won't be playing on Linux
"your environment is abnormal"
The initial menu is displayed fine, which allows for registration and login. When clicking on Launch, if immediatilly fails with an error message "Your game environment is abnormal. Please restart the machine and launch the game again!" and the game exits.

Game installs, but displays "your environment is abnormal" on launch
Game devs mention SteamOS/Linux is not officially supported, but decided to try anyway through Steam because most reports I saw used Lutris. No surprise, still borked on Steam!
Doesn't even start
I tried default proton and proton experimental. I have tried this game before it came to steam, and this issue is most likely because of their anti-cheat.
Launcher doesn't fit correctly on the screen, after fiddling with the maximize button a few times I was able to get it to scale to the screen correctly so I could hit the launch button. Sadly after hitting lauch you get the same error everyone else is mentioning "Your game environment is abnormal. Please close the game and try again." Followed by the game closing.
Shut out by anticheat software.
Broken due to anticheat.
Your game environment is abnormal.
Please restart the machine and launch the game again!
Changed to GE-Proton7-19 to get it to run past loading (spinning Steam icon) stage.
Using the 2.0 version and Steam installer/launcher got to menu then clicking start (which was challenging since "Start" button was sized off page) then got "abnormal environment" dialog.
Still broken after Vera2.0/Steam launch.
Can't get past the launcher. "Game environment is abnormal"
