Played great for me. No tinkering at all. Very fun. Buy this game, it's great!
I hesitated buying the game given all the mixed reports here. But I've had zero problems with it so far. The game runs very smoothly at 1440p on maxed video settings, a very stable 120fps on avg.
The in game radio defaults to be very loud and drowns out the NPCs and tutorial stuff. I was unable to find a way to toggle it off, so I just opted to turn the radio volume down to zero in the settings. This has nothing to do with the linux experience. Just figured it was annoying enough to mention.
As for the game itsself. It's really well done. Very fun space combat. You should definitely grab it and support this talented indy dev.

You might enjoy if you can keep it from crashing when you exit game. Perhaps Experimental instead of GE will be better. I will try that one.
reducing the graphics settings to medium offered a significant performance improvement. Reducing further to Low nearly eliminated the perceptible input and display lag I was getting.
closing the game killed my entire Desktop instance. crashed to TTY which recovered itself. K-Win error reporter greeted me when it did.
character in the character creator was not fully manipulable with a mouse click and drag, it would hop up and down like it was stuck on the vertical axis. was still rotatable.
the initial loading screen took an extra minute, but it did load to a main menu which was flawless. something is happening with the actual game instance once you load a save or start a new game.

Installed fine but would not run
Used multiple Proton settings down to 6.3-8 and still couldn't get to work. Tried GE-Proton9-22 as well still nada. The game will open on PE but it crashed after the initial startup screen.
Smooth as glass. I have 100 hours played on Windows, switched to Linux Mint / Proton. 30 Hours in no issues

Lags and stutters for a while, but clears up pretty quickly.
Worked fine for me with Proton Experimantal

Lags a lot. Crashes when clicking on startup and when changing any settings and clicking apply.

Extreme lag in cities, and hitching in space areas with enemies present.
Everytime you click when the games initially launching it crashes. Everytime you change settings the game crashes.
Game doesn't even close properly after crashing sometimes.

spacebroke 2
its all slow i had to wait like 5 minutes before playing for all the textures to come in place and load
this was a funny it uhhh alt tabbed me but i was still in the game and like my browser consisted a small portion of my screen in the middle but i couldnt interact w it
it runs mega slow but flows between 2-20 fps
the worst part was the clear re using of assets massively which can be a problem and might be cause of the slow like i dont need 50 of every generic space dweller and they all make a noise so its annoying, having the ai voice be so bad is cwazzy for 2024

On default auto-detected settings, terrible FPS, around 5fps. On lowered settings, game crashed.
Game crashed when turning graphics settings to minimum
Fiddling with custom proton and various other versions might help, has resolved similar performance issues in the past, but certainly not a playable out of the box experience.

Significant performance issues across the board. Tried with various Proton versions, various GE-Proton versions and various ingame settings.
Runs at 40-60 FPS when using Protontricks but with character and skybox textures missing.
Runs between 2-4 FPS
Hardware may not be the best but should at least be able to run at 20 FPS at the lowest. Experience may vary. Not expensive so give it a try but do not set expectations too high. 3 months of tinkering and no result so far. Will continue trying and update if progress is made. NOT A LINUX VETERAN, those with more experience may have more solutions to try.

Seems to launch and run great, I had to restart Steam after install to get it to launch but then it worked as I would have expected!

Installed, "Launching..." forever, killed processes, tried again, "Running", nothing ever happens.
I just installed this game and it never runs. At first, it was stuck "Launching...". I killed a bunch of steam related processes and tried again. Finally, it did something when launching and proceeded to a "running" state. No window ever appeared or anything. It would say "running" but nothing appeared to have happened.

Tried Protontricks, didn't work
Installed the game, tried launching and it would just stay at "Launching..." in Steam. Tried to use different Proton Versions, nothing worked. What's worse is, that after hitting launch cancelling doesn't truly cancel anything. You have a lot of processes left over in your System Monitor, that behave like Zombies and that you have to force kill manually.
After all of that i tried to start the .exe directly from within the install location (.\steam\debian-installation\steamapps\common\SpaceBourne2), which by default uses Wine. It did start and get me to the menu, but with a big downside. Upon launching, my whole screen went a lot darker before the game even opened up and it stayed that dark until i restarted my whole PC. Not really worth my time dealing with that.

I decided to wait until the game is developed more so playtime is limited but during the hour I spent in the game, everything worked fantastic on Proton

works well for me
In space stations when you get out of your ship and go inside, performance usually tanks until you get away from the docking area and unload all the ships and exterior stuff.
The type of lag when this happens feels exactly like playing Uboat in Linux without using PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1. However disabling esync doesn't fix the lag. This is an Unreal Engine game and Uboat is a Unity game so if the occasional lag is Linux related rather than "big game made by only 1 guy" related, esync isn't the fix.
When flying after some cutscenes the cursor would be locked toward the bottem left. Changing the flight relative mode (K) to fixed made the game playable. But switching back to relative owuld return the same issue. Solves itself after another cutscene
It seems that changing graphical settings during play would increase lag. Repeat changes stacked the issue until I was watching a slideshow. A restart fixes this
I'd reccomend turning off motion blur, increasing 3rd person FOV and distance, really helps with motion sickness
Game ran perfect out of the box.

HUD is a little small, there's a scaling option in Settings
Game occasionally freezes for a couple of seconds, usually when next phase of missions or after warping

I always customize the controls further, for every game. This is not a demerit for this one.
Cloud saves are currently not supported.
