Works pretty much OOTB with Proton-GE. A few low hassle launch options. some minor issues. Otherwise it's Golden.
gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip --intro-skip --skipstartScreen
just a few textures glitching. happened once in the first mission. may happen elsewhere.
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland %command%
downloaded a dll from official website. Another report here a had link. It was from a Factorio Staff forum post. just find your exe under the bin? x64 folder and move the dll to that folder.
with the launch command and DLL i can't tell a difference between Windows and Linux. I have put about an hour in since getting it to work. YMMV, best of luck, engineer.
You might enjoy if you can keep it from crashing when you exit game. Perhaps Experimental instead of GE will be better. I will try that one.
reducing the graphics settings to medium offered a significant performance improvement. Reducing further to Low nearly eliminated the perceptible input and display lag I was getting.
closing the game killed my entire Desktop instance. crashed to TTY which recovered itself. K-Win error reporter greeted me when it did.
character in the character creator was not fully manipulable with a mouse click and drag, it would hop up and down like it was stuck on the vertical axis. was still rotatable.
the initial loading screen took an extra minute, but it did load to a main menu which was flawless. something is happening with the actual game instance once you load a save or start a new game.
A lot of pop-in for the first game area.
Low FPS for sure. Expected because it's a very fresh Early Access Release
At startup with Steam it asks if you want to link your EGS account. this is totally OPTIONAL however it may let you group with more people. Also, if you click the same area twice to confirm it will pop up again anyway asking you to link accounts. Simply click the X at the top right of the screen. Works after that. Linking is ideal though, as you can group up with more people.
I don't believe performance is any better on Windows, so don't expect to have a stable 60fps until the devs improve it. Otherwise, it works.
When I launched the game, it was quite loud as games tend to be, so I alt tabbed to mute the game from my system sounds. Doing this froze the program for a solid 2 minutes. I let it cook to see what would happen and it did eventually unstuck itself. I was then able to access the settings and lower the volume to my preferences.
I have a low amount of time on the game, admittedly, but that time was, other than my issue at startup, flawless. so far.
