It won't even start with proton 8.0-5. With experimental or 9.0-3, the game starts but fails to connect to anything then it closes.

Installed, "Launching..." forever, killed processes, tried again, "Running", nothing ever happens.

I just installed this game and it never runs. At first, it was stuck "Launching...". I killed a bunch of steam related processes and tried again. Finally, it did something when launching and proceeded to a "running" state. No window ever appeared or anything. It would say "running" but nothing appeared to have happened.
