low fps + fps drops makes an extreme bad experience compared to the PC

Lowered settings and capped display at 40hz
Game is fully functional along with most mods. I seemingly get slightly better performance on lower versions of proton.

A smooth and sharp 30fps experience with the right settings listed below and forced 720p resolution
MESA_VK_WSI_PRESENT_MODE=immediate %command%
Set the game as 1280x720, as in ultrawide resolutions the game still renders behind the blackbars, we need to squeeze any performance available, the game is locked at 16:9 there's no point on setting 800p resolution
Steam performance settings:
- Frame Limit 30 FPS (60Hz)
- Enable Allow tearing
- TDP limit 10W
The game drains around 16W ~ 18,5W quite less than running at 40fps it was draining 25 and not with an unstable framerate
Graphic settings:
- Resolution: 1280x720
- Autodetect settings: On
- Raytracing: Off
- Texture Quality: High
- Antialiasing: High
- SSAO (User preference): Off
- DOF: Off
- Motion Blur (Needed at 30fps): High
- Shadow: Medium

Limit FPS to 30 TDP Limit: 9
I was having frequent crashes whenever I tried to fast travel. This may have been an anti-cheat issue as booting the game with the deck in offline mode fixed this. As of the most recent updates this problem has been solved entirely.

Create two empty files through the terminal
"steam/steamapps/common/ELDEN RING/Game/DLC.bdt"
"steam/steamapps/common/ELDEN RING/Game/DLC.bhd"
Network error since patch 1.14
Since patch 1.14 you need to add two files manually if you dont have the DLC in order to be able to play online. Other than that the game works great!

Follow this instruction to resolve connection issue at start. In cause : the new update with DLC

Steam deck run the game perfectly

30fps lock
Multiplayer doesn't work. Game would freeze occasionaly forcing me to restart. Sometimes crashes holo instead. Stopped being able to launch the game, validating the files fixed this.

30 FPS TDP: 8 Textures: moyens SSAO: Moyen Eclairages: Moyen Effets: Bas Volumétrique: Moyen Eau: Basse Nuanceurs: Moyen Qualité globale des éclairages: Moyen Herbe: Moyen
1 freeze
La console surchauffe pas mal, il est recommandé de faire des sessions de 2h max et de laissez refroidir la console avant de reprendre votre partie.

The text is a little small, need to get closer to the Steam Deck
The graphics aren't really great though, but it is expected. It runs well and its all I ask.

Controls would stop working randomly needing to force close the game.
Certain dlc and basegame areas causes the frame to drop to 28 from 30 such as: / outside of raya lucaria north / loading spots in camps in the dlc "i.e near castle ensis grace, near black keep camp, camp with undead dragon fight" / whenever a furnace golem is active (furnace golem attacks causes massive framedrops to low 25s on deck which is also an issue on windows) / dragon breaths (specifically the flying side breath attack) and any particle effects like the plants.
Occasional crashing when using fast travel forcing a hard reboot on the deck. Unknown how to reproduce this or it's consistency as I've been able to play from start to finish + ranni questline without a single crash and sometimes 2 crashes within a span of an hour or two.
Default proton. Set frame cap to 30fps with allow tearing. Graphics options are:
- Fullscreen 1280x80
- Texture quality: medium
- AA quality : High (Bug where the game resets it to high whenever you restart giving you no option to change
- SSAO: medium
- Shadow: medium
- Lighting: medium
- Effects: low (might help with reducing fps drops during attacks, test this if you wish to set higher)
- Volumetric: medium
- Reflection: high
- Water surface: high
- Shader: medium
- Global Illumination: medium
- Grass: Medium

Sometimes it's a bit too small, abilitiy to increase UI would be great
Sometimes my controls stopped working, so i had to plug another gamepad, switch between them and unplug it which fixed it most of the time, if not - restarting the game fixed it
While base game runs fine, DLC had a noticable amount of dips below 30
Had at least 2 freezes while doing DLC, game just hang the deck fully and i had to perform hard reboot
I've had to dial setting a bit, playing on the OLED version i ended up locking FPS to 30 and have this settings:
Texture Quality - High Antialising Quality - High SSAO - Medium DOF - Medium Motion Blur - Off Shadow Quality - Medium Lighting Quality - Low Effects Qualiy - Medium Volumetric Quality - Medium Reflection Quality - Low Water Surface Quality - Low Shader Quality - Medium Global Illumination Quality - Medium Grass Quality - Medium

Game crashes at the white screen immediately after launch.
I have tried switching between stable and beta release of SteamOS and Steam Client, tried all available Proton Versions, disabled Decky, disabled EAC, nothing worked. It used to work before the DLC released.

Decent performance if you really have to play on the go, otherwise stick to desktop if you don't want to make a hard game even harder.
Cap refresh rate to 40hz.
Item descriptions somewhat difficult to read.
Getting cloud sync saves sometimes fails multiples times before succeeding
Struggles to stay above 35FPS in the overworld. Significant FPS decrease during certain fights (e.g. lighting casting bosses).
Note that this is based 100% on my experience in the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC, I have not tried the base game area on the deck.
Anti cheat prevents online play

Lowered all graphics to minimum

I did not try multiplayer, your experience may vary based on that.

Has issues on Windows too.
An acceptable way to play the game, and maybe if this is all you know the frame dips won't bother as much. But if you can play this on a PC with a rock solid 60fps it is a far superior experience, as the ability to react realiably in tough fights is crucially important.

Steam Deck OLED
40 FPS with some dips into mid 30s in high volumetric areas (forested areas of Limgrave, primarily) and fights with lots of lightning (Dragon Lord Placidusax). There are many instances (much of the game in fact) in which you can use 45 fps (90 hz) in the quick menu, but drops to 30s will still occur.
Hoping From Software will introduce FSR 3 with the DLC as it shows serious promise with the paid mod.
SETTINGS IN ELDEN RING
- Windowed Mode
- 1024x576 resolution
- Texture quality high
- Antiailiasing quality high
- SSAO medium
- Depth of Field medium
- Motion Blur off
- Shadow Quality medium
- Lighting Quality high
- Effects Quality medium
- Volumetric Quality medium
- Reflection Quality high
- Water Surface Quality high
- Shader Quality medium
- Global Illumination Quality high
- Grass Quality medium
QUICK MENU SETTINGS ON STEAMDECK Frame Limit = 40 (80 hz) Scaling Filter = FSR FSR Sharpness = 4 or 5 (others can be used but text is more blurry)
Some text is quite small and can be tough to read.
With some adjustments to the graphics settings and the FSR options in the quick menu, you can take this game from looking poor to looking rather solid without sacrificing a lot of performance. In an ideal world, From Software would implement FSR natively into the game's graphic settings to further improve the performance. There is a paid mod with FSR 3 that shows a lot of promise for reaching 60 fps, but without that mod or official support, either 40 or 45 is the best you can do. Dropping certain settings can get some improved performance, but I did not find it meaningful enough.

Black bars. No option to change aspect ratio from 16:9 to 16:10.
Impossible to get 60FPS.
35-40FPS with Amazing Graphics:
Everything - High settings (Depth of Field and Motion Blur are optional)
Shadow Quality - Low
Volumetric Quality - Low

Game runs for maybe 3 minutes, then crashes with Proton. GE on the other hand hard crashes SD LCD
tried few GE versions but also dont work. Current 3.5 SteamOS
Can crash and even completely freeze the SD LCD

- GPU 1200MHz
- CPU 10W
- Screen 40Hz
- In-game resolution 960x540
- FSR Sharp 2
Controls sometimes stop working mid-game. To restore functionality had to change the controls profile to emulate keyboard and mouse then change it back to the default controls.

Steam Deck cannot run it at 60Hz regardless graphic settings anyway, so cap it at 40Hz is good at most of the places.
Full Screen, 1280x800 native, Shadow = Low, Volumetric = Low, other settings all high. All Lowest settings only improve 3Hz; not worth it.

As with all games on my Deck, game is locked to 40/60 FPS by default in handheld and docked mode respectively by default. This might be irrelevant since it rarely exceeds 40-50 FPS anyways, but the framerate is mostly stable nonetheless.
- The game will very rarely crash for no apparent reason. Not enough to be annoying but still happens.
- In handheld mode (possibly related to running on battery), there are infrequent frame spikes where the game completely freezes for about one second. Does not occur while docked with AC power.

It struggles to maintain 30fps most of the time. Smooth on the open world part, but who cares, the boss fights will have big slowdowns.
If you want the fewest framedrop ever, set global settings to low and then change AA to high, SSAO medium, shadow medium. You will barely see any difference compared to maximum settings except for less grass.
My biggest gripe with the game: Some texts are SUPER small. The deck barely able to render the alphabet, yet other games with much bigger text are rated playable by valve because of the "hard to read text".
Objects popping out when you fast travel
Even with everything set to low there will be framedrop when there is rapid camera movements. So yes, framedrop will occur more often during during boss fights due to the camera locking to them flying around the area.
Sometimes the game just freezes and the deck reboots.
Don't trust the verified badge. It's false advertising. Horrible performance and fuzzy tiny texts. It's obvious that valve is giving it a green badge just so they can slap the elden ring cover on their page because it was the most popular game at the time.
The game gives a good impression at the start with smooth performance but it gets worse as you explore. If this is your only way to play the game you will have a bad time. 2 hours of refund window is not gonna be enough to get to the parts where the performance slogs.

Network connection seemed to have hiccups
Game runs well even on high, swapping to medium gave a bit more fps and made it a smoother experience on steam deck without much visual impact.

python er-patcher -uvcs -- env MANGOHUD=1 MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=35,no_display %command%
Used er-pather to enable 16:10 and improve visuals
Used er-pather to enable 16:10 and improve visuals. It diables multiplayer.
Overclocked Steam Deck screen to 70 Hz.
Locked fps to 35 via MANGOHUD, lower input latency compared to Steam Deck fps limiter.
Launch options: python er-patcher -uvcs -- env MANGOHUD=1 MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=35,no_display %command%
Steam Deck settings: refresh rate 70 Hz, frame rate limit 70 fps.
Resolution 1280x800, settings textures and antialiasing to High, the rest are mix of Low and Medium.
Result: 99% smooth gameplay with 35 fps, with rare drops to 30

30 fps
~1 time per week game is not restarted from the save point. Loading is stopped at 90%

Supposedly works just fine for everyone except for me. Game refuses to run on my steam deck
No matter what proton version I use it the game will not launch for me. It shows a white screen and then crashes every single time. Other games are working properly so nothing is wrong with my deck, this one game just won't launch at all. I've tried a lot of potential solutions I found on Reddit and here but nothing has worked for me. I'm not really sure what to do at this point.

NOT what I call Verified, but Very Playable for someone who only has a SteamDeck to play this
I targeted framerate with my graphics settings and left the SteamDeck plugged most of my playing. But when it was unplugged it estimated 2 hours from full charge.
Text is a litttle small for my eyes when keeping the SteamDeck about 2 feet away (in my lap), brought it closer to read sometimes.
Connecitng to another player's world would crackle the audio.
A couple crashes, probably the game itself.
Hangs during startup (in several different ways...), frame drops during cutscenes.
Connectivity was honestly better than when I played on PS4.
I dropped my settings to 540p and low preset. Was able to get mid 40 fps most of the time, some areas were 55-60 fps, others could drop all the way to 30 or lower. Certainly a way to play Elden Ring if you have no other, but even playing on a PS4 with a large TV would likely do you better than the SteamDeck screen.

30FPS for more hours of playtime. SteamOS built in V-Sync that gets enabled when you lock framerates adds way too much input lag and is kinda annoying in games like Elden Ring. It's very noticeable for me when fighting faster bosses so I always set the Framerate Limit to Off and turns on Allow Tearing for minimum input lag. When docked there is no real reason to limit battery consumption so I always use these settings there.
Easy Anti-Cheat sometimes does not boot the game. If you get stuck on a infinite SteamOS Loading Screen or White Screen for an extended time just close it down and attempt to start Elden Ring again.
The game has crashed a few times while attempting to play Online. Does not happen too often though. Otherwise there are no noticable network lag or connection problems.
Playing docked you will be able to get away playing in 1080p but any higher and framerate issues will pop up. A small amount of areas has lower performance than others but not as many as Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.
Runs great given Deck hardware, minor tinkering may be required for additional save backup
Save corrutped when exiting via Holo OS. Ensure you exit via in game menu
Some mild stuttering
Excellent Multiplayer both in game and using the seamless co-op mod
Sometimes it just drops fps and goes a bit slower, but it's a minor annoyance
It doesn't like the deck switch off/on capabilities. If I pause powering the deck down, when I resume the game it cannot connect to online game. You need to exit the game every time and enter again.
For performance I just lock it at 40 fps and set graphic details all to medium. It achieves 40 fps but sometimes it drops a bit to 30~. Otherwise it works properly.
Multiplayer works. PvP, whether fun or not, works on the deck as it should.
Elden Ring is a 30fps game on the Deck. There's really no way of getting around that unless you want the game to look like a PS1 game. It's pretty stable throughout the game with high textures and everything else medium or low in 800p. I only noticed a significant stutter when I was dropping down to get to the frenzy flame room and one of those enemy used frenzy magic. It was the only time the game freaked out with stuttering. Other than that, you'll get a traversal stutter while riding Torrent but it's not frequent nor distracting. This game runs very well on the Deck, Tarnished.
