Proton 6.3-8, game works perfectly "out of the box" on max settings with zero tinkering. Solid 60FPS.
access violation error
Works out of the box and runs very well. After about 10-hours of play, I started getting the occasional access violation error, but this seems to be a common and widespread problem that affects even those playing on Windows (the game Horizon Zero Dawn which uses the same game engine also has reports of access violation errors, so apparently it's not just Death Stranding). Reducing graphics settings to "Medium" seems to have resolved it for it now, but it's an unpredictable error, so it's possible I may encounter it again later on.
Frame Limit: 30 FPS; TDP Limit: 8 Watts; Manual GPU Clock: 1100 MHz
Just install and play. I have graphics set to medium and tweaked the Steam Deck power settings which gives me about three hours of play time.
Elden Ring on Steam Deck is "plug and play". I didn't have to change a single in-game setting to get flawless performance. A lot easier than getting it running on my desktop.
Set left trackpad to "Joystick".
Frame Limit: 30; Half Rate Shading: On; Thermal Power Limit: 8; GPU Clock Frequency 800
Runs perfectly. Locked 30FPS with graphics at max.
It's a fun game when it works. Unfortunately, it's currently broken on the Steam Deck using the official Proton Builds.
Water and lava textures are rendered as a flat rainbow hued shimmer that is visible through the level geometry.

Just install and play.
Reduced FPS to 40
Just install and play. Great game.
Framerate Limit: 30; Thermal Power Limit: 5 Watts; GPU Clock Frequency: 600
Flawless performance with no tinkering.
Won't start

First time running, was promoted to install the Rockstar launcher, the installation finished without incident, and that was it. The game never launched. Tried using different versions of Proton with the same result.

I reported previously that the game wouldn't start. This was my fault, because I used the Game Mode launch option without Game Mode installed. The seems to run flawlessly.
Great game and runs beautifully in Linux. Very will optimized.
Set to 40FPS
Runs very well on the Steam Deck and is easy to play with controller input. I locked the framerate to 40 and get an estimated five hours of battery life.
Works out of the box with no tinkering other than forcing Proton Experimental. It has crashed to desktop (actually to the KDE login screen, meaning the entire desktop environment crashed) maybe three times in 120 hours of play. I've really been enjoying the game.
Refresh rate set to 40Hz; FPS locked to 20.
One crash
Forced Proton experimental. Other than that, it works out of the box. 20FPS might seem low, but it's stable, looks surprisingly good on the small screen, and gives me around three hours of play time with graphics on the lowest preset. It can easily run at 30FPS or better, but then the battery life suffers.
Framerate locked to 30; Thermal Power (TDP) Limit set to 12.
Just install and run. No tweaking necessary unless you want to extend battery life. Runs great on high settings.
