Framedrops with GE 7.30
gamemoderun PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -high -unlockfps -framefixunbounded
I have added these launch options, not sure if they change much.
Out of the box 10/10 as of now, proton experimental
i have not ran the game on a windows machine and therefore cannot guarantee save file compatibility, nevertheless there may be no issue at all
CS2 broke my CSGO
I have quite a few hours on the linux version and i could play aside from customization for my low end hardware. I tried launch options and a couple versions of proton but no luck. I will submit a new report if i get it to run.
Many hours on this game with linux.
Noting this just for the sake of it, framedrops and lagginess on loading screen (a few seconds) when changing stages too fast (not really a serious issue if at all).
No need for proton at all imo
Great experience.

No need for proton.
Great out of the box, no problem so far.

I had a save file on the demo version and it got deleted after the main game's install. Back it up in advance and you won't have the same problem.
I use experimental, haven't really tested any other version.
Runs out of the box. Unsure about previous save file loading correctly . Haven't tested the .exe replacement.
As others noted, fps drops in plant selection screen, gameplay is 60 fps
Audio was not working and i had this problem as described in the log files:
mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
Failed to create permanent mapping for memfd region with ID = 3435475531
Switching from the default Pulseaudio to Pipewire fixed the issue.
On a mode map that has a big open space with many troops i experienced FPS drops while at unit select and said space.
I am adding this report because of the sound issue. Also i couldn't see any online servers. Multiplayer and other kind of patches at swbfgamers, steam guides and gamefront (etc.) can enchanche the gameplay experince drastically for such an old game.
Cutscene audio is a mess, delete the files on the languages you do not want, or else you will hear the cutscenes in 5 languages at same time.
i am running this on an external hard drive with no actual GPU, probably not proton related
i reccomend this version of proton, with others i could not even launch. adding dlc and community patches for further enchancement is easy, just follow the steam guides.
Personally i had no problem with offline or online play.
For me Proton 4.11-13 is required, i could not launch the game with other versions i tried.
Proton 4.11-13 did the trick, out of the box no issues as of now.
Testing with different proton versions (such as experimental and 6.3-8) i found a problem where the menu screen was black, but replaced my cursor's texture (similar issue on swjkja).
I used proton 4.11-13, experimental and the latest had graphical issues.
Singleplayer campaign runs great as of now, i could not see any servers on multiplayer.
Great game, needs patch for multiplayer, had minor issues. Overall great experience.
Main menu background is usually missing, minor issue
I run Proton Experimental.
From my experience i reccomend proton over native
Native version had accuracy problems with dualshock 3 controller, proton works perfect (emulated xbox controller) -xboxdvr installed-
Native version did not recognise my already existing save, reccomend proton version
This game must be on of the most stable games on proton, i have a lot of hours with Proton Experimental.
After quite sometime on multiplayer game, i am forced out (dunno if i get kicked, i report this just in case it's a proton issue,no problem on my windows computer)
Proton 4.11-13 seems like the best option, as well as other other old star wars games.
With Proton-6.21-GE-2 i experienced a bug that made the game unplayable. With Proton Experimental and 6.3-8 the floor on Mos Eisley. Proton 4.11-13 was flawless.
Experimenting with different proton versions, it seems to me that it takes a while to link or <> to the swbf2 online network with most proton options, unlike my windows experience. Nevertheless Proton 4.11-13 seems to be the most stable and reliable version for both online and offline play.
Stages are black (maybe harsware issue) cutscenes are not percievable, generally works but not 100% great
Audio and video on cutscene was chaos
Proton-6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.21-GE-2, removes the problem of missing cutscenes
Stage animations are absent, installing wmp through wine may fix this but i have not tested it (noted below)
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/576-bulletstorm-xlivedll/ use this dll file to remove windows live, alternatively use the community patch of this steam guide https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649186874 . i have not tried online multiplayer, though installing the online patch -while having disabled windows live feature- does not create any stability issues (multiplayer does not work with disabled WL ddl file).
Proton-6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Stages show only a blueprint instead of full texture. (i have a similar problem with sfxtk)
FPS was unstable until i decreased the resolution and went full screen (with Alt+Enter)
I did not try any bundled versions of proton, GE seemed like a better option.
"PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%"
Proton Experimental displayed a black screen though i was able to navigate through the menu. Switched to noted Proton version. No problems with external devices or audio.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% -force-d3d11-singlethreaded
Steam cloud error, i do not know if restarting steam fixed this issue
Without the launch option "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% -force-d3d11-singlethreaded" i had bellow 30 fps
I tested 1 duel. I lagged a bit, and my opponent disconnected, probably connection issues and not proton related.
I tried a proton GE varsion based on Proton 7.0 and didn't work . I had tested the game with different versions a few months ago and i couldn't make it work. I used Proton experimental today with the launch option PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% -force-d3d11-singlethreaded and it worked just fine, had a pleasant experience.
