It runs at 60 fps at 8 TDP but I had to install the community patch from https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649186874 (I used protontricks for that).
Unfortunately this method prevents the game from being able to read DLCs.
I'd like to know if theres a fix for DLC content because this it makes me feel empty.
Backgrounds are missing.
Had to blindly configure the resolution via main menu because the height and width was squashed at first. This rarely happens with Unreal Engine games on Proton.
Game is somewhat playable except for the online mode that is completely dead and background textures are missing. Windows Live is no more and Capcom needs to update it with Steamworks. I doubt this could happen any time soon.
I played this using Proton 7.0-5 flatpak community build. To run the game first download the community patch .exe file and move it to the directory the game is installed. Then install protontricks on Flatpak, run protontricks, inside protontricks select the game, select the default wineprefix, run the explorer, and then execute the community patch. Community patch will ask you where to install it. Choose the game directory path. Finally before starting the game, edit the installscript.vdf file found in the game directory and remove the entry Windows LIVE entry, otherwise it will not launch. Enjoy!
- Download the game (but do not try to launch it yet)
- Download the Community Mod Patch from https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649186874
- Execute the downloaded file with Wine (e.g: wine patch.exe) and extract its content to the download/installation directory
- Edit the file "installscript.vdf" on the download/installation directory and remove the "Live" {...} entry
- Finally launch the game and have fun
Windows Live will not install, this is also experienced on Windows 10/11. The community patch is required to play this game.
No stage textures (completely black background) when Stage Quality is set to Low

Proton-6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.21-GE-2, removes the problem of missing cutscenes
Stage animations are absent, installing wmp through wine may fix this but i have not tested it (noted below)
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/576-bulletstorm-xlivedll/ use this dll file to remove windows live, alternatively use the community patch of this steam guide https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649186874 . i have not tried online multiplayer, though installing the online patch -while having disabled windows live feature- does not create any stability issues (multiplayer does not work with disabled WL ddl file).

Runs fine with the default Proton (6.3) after a few tweaks listed below, but videos still don't play
To be able to play it follow the steps below:
Download the game (but do not try to launch it yet)
Download the Community Mod Patch from https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649186874
Execute the downloaded file with Wine (e.g: wine patch.exe) and extract its content to the download/installation directory
Edit the file "installscript.vdf" on the download/installation directory and remove the "Live" {...} entry
Finally launch the game and have fun
Videos do not play

6.20-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Videos did not play without GE
Make sure to get the community patch.

the game does not open
tried all proton versions with the community mod patch and the game didn't open
Stages are black (maybe harsware issue) cutscenes are not percievable, generally works but not 100% great
Audio and video on cutscene was chaos

put this command in Steam Set Launch options:
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
You must use Proton 4.11-13 if you want to use vanilla steam's version, use protontricks with this command:
protontricks 209120 d3dcompiler_47 devenum wmp9
You must use xlivess for offline gameplay, download here and extract it in the same directory as the game executable:
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/576-bulletstorm-xlivedll/
Download DXVK from official website and extract all files of 32 Bit folder to this directory:
SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/209120/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/
patch and run

Works perfectly well after installing the Community Mod Patch from: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649186874
It should be noted because of the nature of this patch, however, that online play does not work.

Patch needed to be installed to remove GFWL. I installed it via standard wine https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B6A_ITzSjsF3RDRPcVljVHVhXzQ and show SFxTK steam installation path.

Tried disabling Esync, D3d11 and using Wine D3d11. It opens saying "Installing Games for Windows? - Live setup" then fails.

With patch works perfectly

Once you use the SFxT community patch (as others mentioned) main gameplay (single player) works flawlessly.

Game can be launched by disabling GFWL which can be done by using either a custom xlive.dll (https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/576-bulletstorm-xlivedll/) or the community mod patch (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649186874). Either option will disable online multiplayer, so single player and local multiplayer only. Video playback requires installing wmp via winetricks, but it cannot be installed on a 64-bit prefix.

After installing the patch to remove games for windows live, it works perfectly

Installed patch to remove GFWL.

Please follow this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sE1z7To08Q8

Patch need to be installed to remove GFWL .
I installed it via standard wine - just show SFxTK steam installation path

Works great with community path (removes GFWL). Multiplayer does not work due to patch.
