protontricks xact or the suggested launch option (DLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7,n,b"). Though it doesn't completely fix this -- the audio still "pops" once every second. It is practically nonexistent during normal gameplay, though.
Blur effect on background objects (like distant forests or mountains) shakes if the camera is moving
Generally PLATINUM, but because of the frequent crashes could be SILVER
Every 2-3 hours in a session the game freezes
If reflections are set to anything else but off, floors and certain walls start flickering black-red
Most of the time 60 fps, but on High it breaks down a bit if more objects get visible
A couple of crashes on starting a new game after shader compilation, but further starts did not crash
RADV_PERFTEST=aco
- Reflections on floors and some walls makes them flicker black-red
- The "lens effect" texture when looking at light sources is sometimes replaced with pitch black spots; it happens per-session, meaning, every other time the game is launched
- The graphics driver (as in, the whole system must be reset to recover) crashes exactly when Chloe, the "main menu host", is about to be rendered; this happens one in three times the game is launched and is independent of video graphics settings. Noticeably more common without ACO.
- The game crashes randomly, sometimes after five minutes, sometimes after one or two hours. It gets more probable the more levels/chapters are played in the same session. Launching the game after that will almost guarantee the graphics driver crash above.
- The official AMD drivers will fix the reflection issues and increase performance marginally, but the mentioned crashes all persist and are not made less frequent
- For a time it looked like PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1, PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1, WINEESYNC=0, WINEFSYNC=0 reduced the crashes significantly, but after another crash none of these showed any effect anymore
- A complete playthrough was tried, but at ~11 hours played the crashes got increasingly annoying, so it was finished on Windows to have a qualifying comparison
- Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF
- protontricks 960910 xact
- Without xact, audio-video synchronization, especially lip movements, is off due to video still loading while audio wants to be played.
- Also without it, the audio crackles heavily.
- With it, every ~5-10 seconds huge audio sample drops simultaneously with video frame drops for a very short time, but whole game remains playable.
Very frequent stutters if new textures never previously seen are shown (as others noted, might be due to missing precompiled shaders). GE's Proton release fixes this partially, textures are drawn on-the-fly.
Rock-solid GOLD; PLATINUM if not for the unplayable videos below
Recordings on the TV are not played (essentially H.263 MP4 videos)
Works flawlessly out of the box
Configure audio I/O devices in your distribution's settings, in-game only volume can be controlled
protontricks 244850 dotnet472 faudio d3dcompiler_47. Note that vcrun2015 is not necessary since a newer version is installed on first launch.
On quitting, closes with a crash and opens the crash reporter or not at all. Click the Stop button in Steam or send a SIGTERM to SpaceEngineers.exe (pkill -SIGTERM SpaceEngineers.exe).
Videos are not played.
In [Steam]/steamapps/common/Space Engineers/bin64/SpaceEngineers.exe.config, insert <gcServer enabled="true"/> under the <runtime> tag. If you don't do that, audio will crackle.
Perfect out-of-the-box, PLATINUM experience
Since Team17 updated Worms Armageddon specifically for Proton compatibility, playing the game became possible.
