Won't start with or without Steam VR

Everything works flawlessly over the 36 hours it took me to (leisurely) play the whole game.
It just worked perfectly. 50+ hours of great fun.
Alt-Tab issue was fixed in Proton, just a few days after I finished the game.
At first the game froze, looks like somehow Steam defaulted to a very old Proton (4.2), but that might have been because I was trying old versions of Proto on other games.
Having to disable Esync to avoid audio loop, having to manually kill the process every time after quitting─not even Exit Steam helps.
After quitting the game, still hear the music and have to kill the process. Every time.
Had to map controller manually in the game's options.
Other than the initial no-input intro (workaround: Alt+Tab), the game works perfectly well and it's very enjoyable.
Not sure whether the game doesn't support full screen, doesn't work on Proton, or it's just the demo (trial version) that doesn't support full screen. Didn't find any settings anywhere.
When the game launched, at first it would not respond to keyboard input. Used Alt+Tab to get out, then came back and keyboard input worked fine. It may be that there's a small intro / delay during which input is disabled and I was just too impatient, but I didn't see any visual clue to indicate that input was disabled.
Will have to try again when the full game is released, but so far the demo work very well so I think this is promising.
Works fairly well out of the box, considering my rig is neither new nor top of the line.
The game shows a black screen for more than a few seconds, but then it starts just fine. When starting or resuming a game it takes some time compiling shaders (inside the game, on top of whatever was done before the game starts running) and it's keeping my rig busy with all fans running full speed all the time, but the game works fairly well. I had a bit of stutter at first because Graphics settings default to Epic which is a bit too much for my rig so I lowered it to Medium and didn't notice it much, except that is runs smoothly now.
Splash logos show, but first menu is already all black. Can see cursor but quitting the game is hard when you can't see anything else.
Broken cutscenes is a severe issue for story-rich game such as this. It was easy to fix, but very annoying.
Cutscenes not showing at all, or showing only the first frame. This is an old bug (2013) with a simple fix: set lighting quality to low https://steamcommunity.com/app/20900/discussions/0/828935673069400166/ It also fixes issues with ultrawide displays.
Just once, mouse clicks were entirely lost. I could move the mouse and use the keyboard, but clicking had no effect on the game or UI/menu, couldn't even quit the game!
