Runs absolutely beautifully. I had to check here because I'd forgotten whether the Steam store listed it as Linux native. Definite 10/10.
The motion is way too stuttered for this to be enjoyable.
The motion is severely, severely stuttered. The camera, the bird, and the environment all move very, very, very poorly.
Been trying to tweak with multiple workarounds, and at most, results in a game crash almost immediately upon starting
At first, it wouldn't even run (no matter what version of ProtonDB and/or Glorious Eggroll I was using), because it was saying that there was an issue installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime. Then I tried using this workaround: https://steamcommunity.com/app/428660/discussions/0/1735468061764944319/?ctp=2#c3175526477767880551 which kinda got it somewhat working kinda sorta. The intro sequence would begin playing, but it was just a black screen with sound effects playing. The controller wasn't responding, so I tried with the mouse. The screen then gave a prompt saying "hold space to skip", so I did, and then it went to spoken-word audio with text at the bottom of the screen (still black), and around this point is where it keeps crashing. The error dialog box flashes by too fast, so I had to do it again while screenrecording, and it's a "UE-4 MoonMan" crash. I tried looking for answers for that, and no results.
Hopefully, someday, this game will actually work, because it looks cool from the preview trailers.
Absolutely incredible game, and runs very smoothly. Just be sure to use a handheld controller.
The keyboard can produce unexpected (or, even sometimes, no) results because some actions you need to do involve particular motions that can be a little bit cumbersome to do with a keyboard and mouse, so it's very highly recommendable to use a handheld controller (I used an Xbox 360 controller).
Right click on the game, go to "Properties", then under "Compatibility" --> "Force the use of a specific SteamPlay", choose "Proton 5.0-10", because if you use anything later than that, you'll get an error message saying something like "error accessing full screen 1920x1080" or something like that. So, use specifically Proton 5.0-10, and it runs perfectly fine, as if it were native.
The artwork is beautiful and there's absolutely no degradation or anything in the artistic or gameplay quality.
In the very very very beginning, literally right in the first 10-ish minutes of the game, there was some stuttering in the graphics and de-syncing between the video and the audio, but after that, it ran perfectly fine.
Runs just fine, as if it were native.
Because it's a Unity game (seems like all Unity games have this problem), you may find that it "can't get the requested monitor" or whatever. Just go to the Preferences specifically for "Outer Wilds", go to "Compatibility" --> "Force the use of a specific Steam tool", and choose "Proton 5.0-10" and it should run perfectly fine.
This game will not, shall not open under any circumstances whatsoever.
I've tried default Proton versions, specifically: Proton 4.11-13 Proton 5.0-10 Proton 5.13-6 Proton 6.3-4 Proton Experimental (as of May 14th, 2021)
and custom builds from Glorious Eggroll, being: Proton-5.9-GE-7-ST Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST Proton-5.21-GE-1 Proton-6.8-GE-1
In Steam Settings, went to "In-Game" and unchecked "Enable the Steam Overlay....etc" box.
Nothing worked. It's completely, utterly, and absolutely unplayable. It won't open. Won't start.
Xubuntu 20.04 ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop AMD Ryzen 9 Octacore 4000 Series NVIDIA GTX 2060 with 6 GB cache Driver version 460.73.01 16GB DDR4 1 TB SSD
Once you eventually get it up and running after a long migraine of a setup, it's one of the best games out there.
Proton 6.8-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.8-GE-1
Once you exit and close the game, in order to turn it back on and play again, you need to reboot your entire computer first.
First of all, it's only possible to open the game and play it using Glorious Eggroll. Also, if you have more than one version of Glorious Eggroll installed, then the game still won't open, so it's best to have the newest version of GE and delete all the previous/older ones.
I think that a standard expectation would be that the motion appears reasonably fluid and natural.
The motion is rather stuttered, but the graphical environment and characters appear just fine.
