Tried all Proton versions and GE8-25 and GE7-55, none got me into a game. Tried all launch options under the sun, that didn't work either.
Seems like the issue is with Nvidias incompetent driver programmers producing dogshit drivers for Linux. No self-respecting Linux user should buy an Nvidia card ever again.
Runs almost flawlessly. There is a slight decrease in performance compared to windows.
Sometimes when starting the game there would be no audio. Solved by restarting the game.
Mouse movement was super choppy. Solved by alt+tabbing into another window and then alt+tabbing back. The choppiness does not seem to be an issue in the game, but rather a bug in Proton.
Framedrops were much more violent and sudden
Really good performance
Textures on crates get warped and bodies of dead people might get rendered only partially.
This game is free, therapy ain't!
The game runs natively on Linux, but it isn't mentioned on Steam.
Game crashes frequently with mods.
Sometimes game refuses to launch for unknown reasons and randomly decides when to start working again
This is probably the worst native port for such an influential game. I honestly recommend users just play via proton. The native version is slow as a snail and frequently crashes when loading mods, which are the main selling point for the game. Sometimes the game just refuses to launch for a while and just randomly decides to start working again later.
Unplayable outside the tutorial
Tutorial works, actual game itself crashes
Saves did not sync from windows, probably not related to proton.
Runs really well on my GTX 680, haven't tested on my GTX 1650 yet.
Nothing out of the ordinary, a few minor FPS drops when loading a new level.
Only playable on servers with anticheat disabled.
Played on my GTX 680, which was probably the cause of poor performance.
To disable EAC on your server add the following lines to your server.cfg
server.secure "0"
server.encryption "0"
server.eac "0"
Playable if you don't mind performance drops
When loading new sounds in, the first instances of the sound would disappear eg. the first 5 gunshots are silent with a minor lag spike.
Models can clip through walls sometimes.
Microphone was not detected
FPS is significantly lower compared to running on windows (tested on a GTX 680, will update review when tested with my GTX 1650)
Sometimes crashes when opening settings
Sometimes multiplayer games cannot be fetched due to some security issues related to anti-cheat(?). Fixed by restarting.
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libtcmalloc.so.4 %command%
Install lib32-gperftools from aur, regenerate en_us.utf8 locale.
Runs really well, not really any complaints that are related to Linux.
Alt-Tab is iffy sometimes
