Game runs perfectly using Proton 3.16.4. I didn't need to use any tweaks or launch options. Cut-scene audio even works without using the tweaks mentioned below. Sometimes the beginning of a sentence would get cut off but it is an extremely minor issue. Only problem is that Alt-Tab doesn't work properly, but the game itself runs perfectly.
On first launch got a black screen. I deleted graphics.cfg and added PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%. Game works fine after that.
I ran the following commands as noted by previous reporters:
- protontricks 244210 -q dotnet452 - protontricks 244210 -q dotnet472 - protontricks 244210 -q d3dcompiler_43 d3dx11_43 - protontricks 244210 -q vcrun2015 win10
It takes a while to install but then the game runs perfectly.
Using Proton 5.13-6 the game ran but G29 wheel wasn't being detected. I switched to Proton 5.0-10 and the wheel is now working, including FFB.
Game didn't launch the first couple of times i tried it. Eventually it launched without trying any tweaks. Game plays fine, steam controller even works. However, when I tried launching it from Big Picture mode it just keeps crashing. So it runs perfectly as long as you don't have it in Big Picture. Played the first two levels so far.
Working with Lutris
I tried all the fixes detailed here. Well, the Protontricks fix installing dotnet at least. Tried all the different versions of Proton in Steam, including the ones by Glorious Eggroll. Tried un-installing and re-installing, the game still won't start. I then installed it via Lutris and it finally works perfectly!
Game runs fine, except for having a very tiny cursor. However, it crashes when I change resolution in the settings
I first tried to run it using Proton 3.16.9 but it wouldn't start at all. I tried changing winecfg to WindowsXP as previous reports advised but it still wouldn't run. I then changed to using Proton 4.2.3 and it started up in the background. I Alt-Tabbed to the game and it worked perfectly! Steam controller works, audio works, graphics are glitch-free at 1920X1080. Only minor issue is having to use Alt-Tab every time I start the game.
Prologue works fine then game crashes to desktop while loading main game. Tried the usual tweaks without success.
Launching the game via the Steam client results in very low framerates making the game unplayable. Launching via Lutris the game runs perfectly.
Game runs perfectly using launch options "-force-d3d11 -screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080". Steam controller feels a tiny bit laggy but not an issue. I played through the tutorial with no problem.
Runs great, everything works. No graphical glitches, no audio glitches, controls are responsive, Steam controller works perfectly. Played the first two levels.
I first used Proton 4.2.7, game ran fine except for no audio in the cutscenes. Then I used the launch command "SDL_AUDIODRIVER=winmm %command%" as recommended by other reports. This did not fix the audio in the cut scenes. I then tried Proton 3.16.4 and it worked flawlessly, including audio. Game runs perfectly with no issues now.
Game launches in Steam but only a small part of the screen is visible. I tried launching the game with PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% but it made no difference. I then launched the game via Lutris using ge-protonified-nofshack-4.9-x86_64 as the runner. The game runs perfectly now!
Game runs perfectly OOB
Game starts up as minimised window, just need to alt-tab to start playing.
The game starts up fine, the menus, settings etc all work fine. Once you get into the game though it runs extremely slowly, ie 4-5fps. I tried different versions of Proton with no luck. I tried using WineD3d, disabling D3d11, disabling D3d10 and disabling ESync, all to no avail, the game just runs very slowly.
So then I tried running the executable in plain Wine and the game runs perfectly! I then tried running it via Lutris using ge-protonified-4.9 and the game runs perfectly, getting a solid 60fps all the way.
So there is something in the Steam client that causes the game to run so slowly and I can't figure out what it is.
Sometimes game hangs when quitting, thus having to force quit the game.
Logitech G29 wheel controller was working for menu navigation, but not in the game. Couldn't calibrate wheel or map controls in the settings at first. I then read in another forum to disable "Xbox controller support, Generic controller support and Switch controller support" in Steam controller settings. The wheel suddenly started working, including force feedback. However, when I tried to play the game later again the wheel wasn't working. I tried switching from Proton 5.13-6 to 5.0-10 and the wheel was working again. Just then Glorious Eggroll released Proton 6.5-GE-1 and I decided to try it. From then everything was working perfectly! Wheel works perfectly, FFb works great, performance is absolutely spot on! No glitches or artifacts playing singleplayer.
Only have the issue occasionally with quitting the game. Also had one instance of the game freezing that necessitated a reboot. This was after clicking "replay" in a custom race.
I first tried running the game with Proton 5.13-6, game ran fine, G29 wheel was working in the menus but not the game. I tried switching to Proton 5.0-10 and then the wheel was working perfectly, including the FFB. Just then Glorious Eggroll released Proton 6.5-GE-1 and I decided to try that instead. Now everything works perfectly, the game, the wheel, the FFB. Good performance, no crashes so far (in singleplayer).
Runs smoothly on 5.13-6
After the cutscene finished playing at the end of the first level the screen just went black and I had to forcequit. I restarted the game and just skipped the cutscene, that did the trick and I could play the second level. I stopped playing before I got to the end of the level though.
Tested with Xbone and Steam controller, both work perfectly.
Note: Using Proton-5.21-GE-1, other versions don't work.
Slight crackling, barely noticeable.
Some minor flickering in the distance, apparently fixed by turning on vsync.
G29 wheel not detected. Steam controller and Xbone controller working perfectly.
I worked my way down from Proton 6.5-GE-1, 5., 4. till finally 3.16-9 did the trick.
My G29 wheel was working in the menus but I couldn't map the accelerator and brake pedals. Clutch pedal and steering for some reason works! I tried the various Proton versions from 6 all the way back to 3. Steam controller works perfectly.
Game doesn't work with GE versions of Proton, just get a white screen.
