A few minor problems, but nothing stands in the way of enjoyment
Camera collectibles and certain models are prone to disappearing when you get close to them from certain angles. Never impeded progress. A fairly rare occurence, but more pronounced in GeoCity than anywhere else.
While using 1-6 to switch between tools, rather than Q and E, key presses were sometimes not registered. Press the same key a few times and it'll eventually switch.
Choppy framerate in certain areas, not unplayable.
Locks up when you attempt to exit - I had to click the "stop" button in my Steam library to get it to exit. Opening cinematic will play audio, but no visuals.
Does not close properly when quitting - must be closed via htop/etc.
Seamless, like-native experience
I'm confident that the issues I've encountered were the result of bugs, not Steam Play. Those issues were sound cutting out when too many sounds were playing at once (for example, using miniguns with the Reflection powerup, or 20+ explosions at once) and poor framerates in some areas and situations. Regardless, these were rare issues that did not impede play.
Works great, aside from sound bugs and performance hiccups
Can't hear gunshots, some other sounds are completely missing (particularly music, aside from menu music). Volume slider in menu does not work.
Game freezes for about a second at a time when some enemies are killed.
I think something weird is happening with FSR2; despite using the same settings as on Windows, everything looks less crisp.
A few crashes while attempting to load into matches
Matchmaking solo isn't a problem, but matchmaking with a party seems to be impossible. Queueing as the party leader will lead to your search being canceled, allegedly by another party member; queueing while not the party leader will lead to other players connecting, but not you. This was tested with Windows users, parties of Linux users only not tested.
Everything works well except player condos
Often crashes after a few seconds of loading player condos, even when mitigating load times by setting shadows to the lowest quality possible. Never had (unexpected) problems in minigames or plaza.
Switched to public beta branch
Game does not save properly. Your unlocked characters, stages, and items in the "unlocks" menu do not come back after rebooting a game, but your purchases in the "power up" menu do.
Game slows down when Steam notifications pop up, and goes back to normal when the notification goes away. Fixed by turning off Steam overlay.
Without saves working correctly, a core part of the game is missing from the experience outright using Proton.
