Controller support is more wonky compared to the remaster, graphics are worse (no AA at all), and it kept crashing after the first loading screen after the bathysphere intro sequence. I switched to the Bioshock Remastered and it's absolutely flawless.
Runs very well and does not crash. Stable 60 FPS even at 6-8 W TDP. Total system power can be kept around 10 W resulting in a 4h battery life.
Original version does not enable gamepad support automatically, lacks graphics options, and crashes, so prefer this version. Only downside is the bigger install size (21 GB).
Certain custom Zombie maps crash when firing your weapon
Locked 60 FPS with max settings
Crashes in Arcade Mode. Seemingly fixed them by using Proton Experimental and disabling Steam Overlay.
Game runs fine but crashes too often, at least in arcade mode. As mentioned, disabling the Steam Overlay appears to fix this. I also used Proton Experimental but I don't think this matters.
Does not perform well with Proton, but runs flawlessly when running with Luxtorpeda (dhewm3)
Original engine with Proton did not reach 60 FPS and kept running at 45-50 FPS. Installing Luxtorpeda (using ProtonUp-Qt from Discover Store) and enabling it in the compatibility settings fixed these problems, now it runs at a stable 60 FPS even at a low TDP (<6 W).
Steam gets stuck trying to install the redistributables (MS VC Redist Package). Previously it worked, not sure what happened, already tried re-installing which did not help. Back when it did work, it froze before displaying anything.
Did not work with any previous Proton version, but latest GE (7-13 as of the time of writing) works perfectly
Map some buttons to cover all in-game actions (e.g. night vision)
Game has controller support, but does not seem to recognize the Steam Deck built-in gamepad.
All the texture tiles are messed up, making it hard to see what you're looking at.
Works fine, completed the entire game, but underwater sections run worse than they should
Use Magnifier
Game drops frames more than it should, considering a GT 240 is the required GPU. Can't maintain more than 40 FPS in certain areas.
Lock at 30 FPS if you want a 100% stable frame rate. Interior areas are at a mostly stable 60 FPS (but asset streaming or culling appears to cause FPS drops). Overall still very playable but not as performant as it should be, considering the age and requirements (GT 240 or HD 4670).
