Muzzle flash from the guns appears with a red striped cloud that burns into the screen for a moment, flashlight doesn't work and blood decals are sometimes missing or glitchy with same red striped pattern. These issues aren't present when using Proton.
Game often crashes with out of memory errors and happens randomly, and happen both on both the native port and when using Proton. Save often!
If you want to play through the entirety of Black Mesa, the native port isnt it, which is kind of a shame. Using Proton GE as a personal preference, but Proton Experimental also works as intended.
-vulkan
High settings (except AA-Set to CMAA2). Game starts way faster, and has overall higher average framerate compared to Win11, without much configuration. However if you constantly experince small freezes, and are eager to play competetive, then i reccomend you play a few rounds of Arms Race to fire all weapons, or using a custom map with access to all weapons and throwables, to make sure all weapon shaders are compiled.
gamemoderun %command% -vulkan
Atleast on KDE Plasma, the game window in bordeless fullscreen just bumps the game just above the task bar, you may need to fullscreen it manually by right clicking game in task bar>more>fullscreen
Due to Vulkan being used, game will stutter alot (shader creation), however the longer you play the less it stutters.
TDP: 11W | Allow Tearing: ON (Tearing on is a personal preference because less input lag otherwise it doesnt change anything in terms of perf) By the games default it uses the low preset, but for personal preference ive changed shadow detail and model detail to medium with no effect to perf and battery life
So far, i cant comfortably read the subs or performance metrics
Using the trackpad and pad controlls at the same time will cause the onscreen icons to rapidly change, havent found how to set the icons to just be controller style
Initial loading into the main menu is laggy, but works itself out after a few seconds
Matchmaking works as it should like on a windows pc
TDP: 10W, Unlocked FPS limit. In PowerTools i set max CPU clock speed to 2700mhz, Governor: performance, GPU max clock speed 1000mhz
Using said settings above on SteamOS side, and graphics preset set to medium (FPS:60) it was very playable. Getting nearly 2 hours of playtime on a single charge. It does slow down especially at the school and Paulownia mall (lots of npc's), but in Tartarus the fps is a steady 40FPS and above.
Initially it enters fulscreen with no issues but once ingame it starts constantly shifting between fullscreen and windowed (weirdly in rythm with sounds effects like an alarm clock in ep1 or interacting with things). Found no proton version that fixes it. Windowed works fine so not game breaking.
Very odd game xD. Finished EP1 and 2, got all routes. No other issues apart from the fullscreen issue.
