Run well out of the box
With my 2560 x 1080 resolution , I tried many of the "Preferred UI Scale" in the Settings window, the one before starting the game, and all went well.
Demo works out of the box
No issue. Behaves exactly the same as on Windows.
Works out of the box
Autosave generates a screenshot which in this case result in nothing (no picture). But game is saved anyway
Beta version tested at public launch, February 27 2021. Everything works out of the box. Autosave was a problem in Men of War Assault Squad 2 (crash) but not here. The only issue being no screenshot done when autosave or save. OK, this "Gates of Hell: Ostfront" is based on "Call to Arms" so I assume it should behave the same under Proton, but is installed separately. It's a standalone version.
Works out of the box
2560x1080 not displaying correctly. Screen is cropped on top and bottom
Works great as its predecessor "Cauldrons of War - Barbarossa". My only issue is fullscreen being cropped with my non-conventional 2560x1080 display. But it's not a critical problem.
Works as intended
Works great, played full screen 2560x1080. Only think is maybe an imperceptible freeze like half a second first time I activate the line of sight (only first time on each game).
It works, but fonts must be corrected with protontricks
After a new installation, the fonts are incorrect. But it can be fixed with protontricks 1882140 corefonts
Slow reaction to clicks, but more noticeably slow when zooming in or out.
Works right out of the box but menus fonts are not the correct one, are big and quite unreadable. Another thing is that the zooming in and out, with mouse or keypad is a bit slow.
For the incorrect fonts, a fix exists however:
protontricks 1882140 gdiplus
protontricks 1882140 corefonts
Look also at "Shadow Empire" which I think share the same mechanism and where fix for incorrect font is detailed.
Game doesn't start
Initial menu, intro and main menu works. Then loading the game got an error : [Argument 'Expression' cannot be converted to type 'System.Int32'] and a bunch of details mainly with /share/wine/mono/wine-mono-5.1.1/lib/mono/gac/Microsoft.VisualBasic .../System .../System.Windows.Forms .../System.Drawing .../System.Configuration .../Accessibility .../Microsoft.VisualC
Works well, out of the box
Behave the same as under Windows. No problem at all. Same game mechanic as "Battle of the Bulge", both works well.
No audio and big water rendering problems, but playable.
No audio at all
Poor water rendering, went black
Able to play but big portions of water turns black when disembarking from landing crafts, and when walking in water. Some trees turns yellow or pink at some distances. Tried "PROTON_USE_WINED3D" or "PROTON_NO_D3D11" without success. It's even worst. No audio at all. Played the Early Access game the day it went out (Nov 10, 2020)
Works, able to play but no movies
Intro video and in between chapters videos are not played. Instead a color pattern is shown.
You can play it the way it's meant to be played and have a lot of fun. That's only the small videos, small movies that are played in between the chapters that are not shown.
Turn resolution not working
When the game starts, the intro video is played in a window, a double click launches the main menu. I tried playing the tutorial scenario: everything looks good at first - you can pan and zoom the map, move counters in the planning stage, you see stats, subunits and all information, you can give commands and lines are drawn, etc. But when you launch the resolution turn, nothing moves on the screen. You hear the noise of the engines, the jets flying over, the shots and the explosions, but your map is blocked, the counters remain in their initial place. It also seems like the sounds are only placeholders and not the ongoing battle. Live battle that should be played is not showing, turn resolution is not working. Therefore, you cannot play the game in this state.
Boots to main menu, but can't click/play
The launcher starts, then the main menu appears, but you can't click any buttons like start a new scenario, campaign, etc... Unable to play. Tried forcing Experimental Proton, but same result.
Apart for the smoke not being as smooth as it should be, the game run very well out of the box.
Smoke from tank firing looks rough
I've not noticed sound problems as other people reported.
Works as intended out of the box
No problem at all. Same experience as under Windows. Demo was already good, this Early Access release (September 6, 2022) works great as well.
Works as intended out of the box
No problem at all. Same experience as under Windows.
Runs well with the Proton No Esync tweak
Add to put "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" in the Launch Options otherwise it runs very poorly
Runs as intended, but map planning buttons are off in high resolutions
In the planning map only, mouse is not over some buttons on high resolutions, but seems to be the case in Windows too, as another player said
Works great except for video tutorials
Works as intended out of the box.
The only issue are the video tutorials which are not playing,. But I have the same issue with all the games where tutorials are videos.
Run well despite intro and hint videos not being visible
Loading video not visible, small hint videos not visible
Starting first mission show only a black screen with text and audio narration. At that time, you have to wait the end and try to go further by pressing spacebar, many times, until it continues. Then you can play and all fine but the small video describing each hint which is not showed
Works well but no video tutorials
Video tutorials does not play
Installs and operates without tweaking. The game is made with Unity and like others works great. The only thing that doesn't work is the tutorials which are videos.
Works great
No issue, works out of the box. Game mechanic is very similar as "Mius Front" or "Tank Warfare Tunisia 43" and I didn't see any issue.
Full screen full HD, video presets High, skirmish played, no issue. Steel Division 2 Beta version 60103684
Run without problem with Proton 3.16-4. I have observe the cursor becoming invisible (but still working) only with Proton 4.2-5. Steel Division 2 Beta v20403
Still disappearing cursor issue when played full screen. Cursor is still here but invisible! Tweak is to play it windowed. Also, intro videos tend to freeze the game. Tweak is to hit ESC key as soon as video starts. Other than that, game runs smoothly.
Tried again with Proton 4.11-8, full screen and played 3-4 times more than 45 minutes without anymore issue regarding cursor. No more disappearing.
Unable to play, stuck in loading screen
Since Fate of Finland DLC (march 2020), unable to play anymore. Before that, the game freeze sometimes but was playable. Now, I'm simply unable to launch a game at all. Tried with Pop!_OS and Manjaro KDE.
Run without a problem out of the box. Quick battle, Campaign, Battle Editor, Encyclopedia, all is working.
No problem at all, run very well
I would like to reiterate the fact that this game works great on Linux. No tweak at all. The comments below are old and maybe there were problems then. But not today. Same experience as if under Windows
Works well (Gameplay Preview Bravo)
Briefing videos not displaying correctly.
Gameplay Preview Bravo (August 2021). Only singleplayer tested. Overall runs great. The only issue was the briefing video and game launch videos (Unreal Engine logo) not showing up. Instead, a "TV Color test pattern" like was shown.
Wine C++ Runtime Library Error
Started the game from Steam Library but don't open and show following error message: "Program: Z:\home[user].steam\debian-installation\steaamapps\common\Unity of Command 2\uoc2.exe abnormal program termination Press OK to exit the program, or Cancel to start the Wine debugger."
Run well out of the box with Manjaro
Some crackling in audio sometimes but very few
Few days ago I was on Pop!_OS 20.04 and it crashes at launch. I switch to Manjaro Gnome 20.0 and it works very well! As other point out, it seems that Ubuntu based distros have a problem to launch the game.
Don't work anymore. Game crash at launch
Has worked some weeks before on Manjaro, see my previous report, but don't work anymore. It simply don't start. You can briefly see in Steam Library that the game is starting, one or two second (green text by your username saying that you're playing) then nothing, green text disappear. No message. Never see the splash screen.
Can't launch without tweaking
Enter following in the Set Launch Options: taskset -c 0 %command%
Crash at start
Try to set launch options "taskset -c 0 %command%" without success
