Launch Flags:Use Wine D3D
I had use PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 and the "experimental" Proton version on Steam (as on March 31, 2021). It works, can play the game. Had a crash on Settings screen.

Same other, ns2.exe not found so I searched and found the correct binary at
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Natural\ Selection\ 2/x64/ns2_linux
so I created a sym link: ln -s ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Natural\ Selection\ 2/x64/ns2_linux ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Natural\ Selection\ 2/ns2.exe
and now both from Steam and command line throws same error in a small dialog box: "Couldn't create D3D11 render device"
