Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Worked perfectly for me. Just download the tarball and extract it to the proper folder (see instructions on the website). I saw here that people were using mf-install to get the game to work, but if you go to their github, they basically tell you to use Proton-GE. Don't get the newest one though, which is specifically meant to make MK11 run, get 5.8-GE-2-MF instead, which is the most stable as of this writing.
I am a huge Melee fan, and an avid Linux enthusiast. I was disappointed when I couldn't get Slap City working, so I tried Brawlhalla. Seems to work flawlessly. No slowdown, glitches, netplay was fine, etc.
I downloaded this because I liked TIS-100 so much. It worked right out the box, no problems at all.
I did the recommended "Disable D3D11,Disable Esync,Use Wine D3D11" tweak and the game ran flawlessly, no controller issues or anything.
Crashes right after the screen telling you about the Unity update. Not only that, Steam still thinks the game is running, so you have to close Steam as well, and then manually send the kill signal to the processes to be able to restart Steam.
Hello, reporting again. I can say for sure that putting in the launch option '-disable-native-gc' definitely works. The game is running smoothly now for me, though I haven't tested online play yet, nor extensively tested the various offline options. What I have seen so far is running flawlessly, no lag whatsoever.
HOWEVER, another user reported it was simple to get the GameCube Adapter working. This was definitely not the case for me. The only way I could get it to recognize the GC Adapter was to use the program wii-u-gc-adapter developed by ToadKing (search for it, you'll find it on github). Once you compile it (just use the make command), you need to run it from the command line, probably with root privileges.
Then from there, you will need to go into the configuration files for the game and create your own profile for your controller. Steam only worked for me using the flatpak install, so I had to dig through my directories to find where the controller profiles were located. For me, it was in the directory ~/home/YOUR-USERNAME/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/data/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/725480/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Ludosity/Slap City/controllerprofiles/. I copied and pasted one of the controller profiles (they are .json files) and experimented for about 90 minutes, until I got it working to my satisfaction. And then you still need to configure the controller to get it to do what you want.
I'm not sure everyone would have the same problems I did getting the controller to work. My GC adapter was some off-market one (there wasn't even a brand name on my box), which could have something to do with my problems. Just in case, I will provide a link to a pastebin of MY GC adapter profile here, without the "https" part.

I hope this helps someone to get the game running with a GameCube controller.
