Everything works except for the videos. As long as you avoid certain maps, it works perfectly fine.
Most videos won't load and just show a "Please stand by" rainbow screen. Including the video that plays on the background of the character select.
A few of the maps can be a bit too much for the Steam Deck and reduce the FPS. Still playable, but will mess with the timing of your combos.
The "RE Engine" video that plays at the beginning will not play. Can be skipped like normal.
No matter what I do, what settings I change, the game stays at 20~ FPS. Unless you count staring into a corner, but that's no fun.
Couldn't reach above 20~ FPS. Even on the smaller scale heists.
Payday 2 isn't optimized, this is well known. For those who don't know, Payday 2 runs on an engine called "Diesel" and as you could tell from the name, it's a racing engine, not exactly made for FPS gameplay. It's been like this forever, and while playing it on a halfway decent PC isn't a bad experience, there are some cases such as the Steam Deck where it just doesn't mix.
Though, if there is a way to make it work, I'd love to know. I was looking forward to playing it on the Deck.
The game works fine, it's still very playable and runs well. But the constant flickering is very distracting.
A lot of the textures in the menu and the background flicker. Luckily the characters themselves stay on screen at all times.
I wouldn't recommend buying the game just for the Steam Deck. But if you have even a semi-decent PC it would probably be able to run it, then you could use the Deck to sharpen up your moves.
It runs good, surprisingly good. The crashing seems to be dependent on your system. I'd say at least try it. It might be worth it.
30 fps lock
Forgot to try it on my already existing saves, but for the prologue: the game consistantly crashes as soon as you get the opportunity to save.
What felt like consistant crashes after 15 minutes or so. The Deck will force you back to the home menu multiple times while displaying an error about an install error after which RDR2 crashes.
Having RDR2 on the go would've been a dream come true for me. Sadly the game just doesn't last longer than 15 minutes or so. I think it might have something to do with the Rockstar Launcher considering the install error. But hey, if you already have the game, I'd say try it.
