I switched to using Gamemode because I saw some very, very minor hitching when panning the map quickly at 120 fps. With Gamemode, the game runs very smoothly throughout. In general, I would still conclude that no tinkering is required here.

Same as other CM games: this game used to work fine starting with Proton 8. Something has changed with the recent Nvidia OpenGl drivers (or packaging) where I can only run it with mesa/zink, but performance and playability is not really impaired on a decent system and it runs fine with this workaround.

At least on my system, split lock detection needs to be disabled, otherwise not enjoyable. With split lock detection disabled, runs great.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 gamemoderun %command%
Need to disable split lock detection during the gameplay session by using
sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0
otherwise unplayable stutter.

EA Sports WRC (the quasi sequel) is getting Linux-incompatible anti cheat, so I went back to this instead and it's amazing. It runs much better than EA WRC at 1440p Ultra, locked 120 fps and works great with my Logitech FF wheel. Great game, runs perfectly on my machine!
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw.dll=n,b" %command%
The game comes with its own versions of ddraw.dll (and glide dlls). If started without any tinkering, the game will crash with an error code. By using the ddraw.dll override, it can be started without any problems.
Complete loss
This game does not work at all - it even crashes my Xorg server right at the main menu after a couple of seconds (It's the only game that managed to do this so far and I've been playing hundreds of titles via Proton/Wine so far). Tried so many things: installing additional components via ProtonTricks, various GE-Proton versions, exluding/including DLLs.
This game was built using Delphi and has some fundamental issues that makes it fail to run correctly with Proton/Wine. Alas, this is just completely borked for now.
Needs command-line option to skip PSN API, otherwise runs and looks much better than many other recent VKD3D games for me.

Be careful with VRAM usage. My 12 GB card consistently reached >95% resulting in slowdown if settings were too high, even though framerates were still great. Better to chose a slightly lower resolution.
Runs great (with music!) after the 1.4.1 patch released in October 2024. The patch focussed on Steam Deck support so it finally works!
Runs well but on my Nvidia card I needed to use VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv to get rid of annoying stutter in some scenes.
VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv gamemoderun %command%
Cutscenes and gameplay near denser cities would stutter if no_upload_hvv was not used.
Works perfectly, no tinkering required
This is the biggest of the SGS games and also works perfectly out of the box.
Works perfectly out of the box.
Like all the other SGS games - no tinkering required.
Works great without tinkering. Performance is decent enough for UE5/DX12, some minor stuttering that is also reported on Windows.

Some users report missing music playback or problems with the tutorial videos, but for me music and tutorial videos play just fine. Looks and runs great, there don't seem to be any compatibility issues at all. However, be aware of early access issues such as crashes etc. that are currently experienced by all players irrespective of operating system.
Looks to have the same general issues as all other versions of the game (slight stuttering, uneven frame rate) but otherwise runs great.

This is a diamond in the rough. It's unoptimized with some scenes running at 30 fps capped while the rest of the game is capped at 62 (!) fps. Native controller support is restricted to Xbox controllers (but SteamInput also works fine). All that said, it runs just as well on my Linux machine as it did on my PS5. From that perspective, no compatibility issues.
If you love "old" Star Trek, you will love this game.
This game is pretty much broken when run via Proton (freezing, audio crackling, input lag). However, running via ScummVM works great and can easily be done by using Luxtorpeda and then selecting ScummVM as the engine. Needs a couple of fonts to be copied to the game directory as indicated by the ScummVM pop-up but GNU fonts can be used.
