Significant tweaks were needed to get the game running. VKD3D_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME
would not work and kept booting into the 2nd GPU (llvmpipe
) with extremly low framerate. Determined that VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json
flag was needed to get GPU filter working per this bug report https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/1734. The following also appear to improve performance:
vm.max_map_count=262144
kernel.split_lock_mitigate = 0

DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070" PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
Frequently boots into an unplayable low performance mode
Sometimes desyncs, sometimes party issues (might try ucrtbase.dll fix) but typically good
Booting into a reliable state is currently difficult. I played ~50 games and over the last week a system update or Proton change seems to have triggered performance issues. When the game finally boots it still plays fine.
Have also set the following:
vm.max_map_count=262144
kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0
Works almost perfect out of the box
Disabling split_lock_mitigate improves performance(removes stuttering) for me: sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0

randloser Fenstermodus funktioniert nicht ordnungsgemäß
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%

DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060" DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command% -nomovies
Flickering graphics.
gamemoderun %command%

Crashes on startup
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
From reading other reports it seems like it could be an issue with 10 and 16 series nvidia gpus. Using the PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 launch option lets me get past the initial splash screen but then still crashes after a few minutes.

Flawless out of the box! Gaming on Linux is being a very positive experience !
Great experience so far gaming in Linux, and it will only get better, soon, bye bye Microsoft
Game doesn't start with either GE or experimental, launch options also don't help

DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti" gamemoderun prime-run %command% -nomovies
Using PRIME (display cable plugged into Intel GPU, Nvidia as secondary GPU)
Works like a charm! Singleplayer as well as multiplayer without any issues for hours, also no tinkering required on my end

gamemoderun %command%
Multiplayer worked fine as well

Works fine out of the box Proton Experimental 2024
Game runs perfect on max settings (except the texture VRAM) and it runs like a charm, No slowdown/crashes or anything of that kind. The game is also fun and i am enjoying SP campaign and skirmish. Its a great entry into the series and totally recommend it right now.
I used to own this in 2023 and refunded it since it crashed a lot back then. Now not a single slowdown or crash after 8+ hours of gaming.

At least on my system, split lock detection needs to be disabled, otherwise not enjoyable. With split lock detection disabled, runs great.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 gamemoderun %command%
Need to disable split lock detection during the gameplay session by using
sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0
otherwise unplayable stutter.

I tried many diffrent combinations from protondb
I tried most fixes that was posted her. Closes i got was full screen black screen. And crash in to the bug screen. After many tries i got this error.
You can no longer authenticate on new devices Currently your game purchase cannot be re-validated successfully, please wait 24 hours and try again.
Denuvo anti cheat program did not like that i tried many times i geuss.

Great game and a lot of RTS fun. I can really recommend the game just use the DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="GPU NAME" fix.
DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060" PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
Without filtering the GPUs with DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="GPU NAME" the game would always use it integrated GPUS not the dedicated. With the option set performance is as expected.
Use DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="GPU NAME" to force the game to use your dGPU instead of the iGPU and have fun.

heavy sluttering , tried many other distro , seems like the game issue as other games running great
Heavy camera sluttering

PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
I had to set "Image Quality" to "Low" or else the game would crash when starting a match.
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 is needed or else FPS is terrible.

Click launch on game. small black window appears where coh3 logo is meant to be. Then bug splat launches. cant get into main menu
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1
Game crashes on start up

Game works find out of the box outside of a pop up for Nvidia users about Nvidia driver version. Pops up every time, but no actual game impa
Game complains about GPU/Driver version, but you can click OK and move on.
Played online, multiple matches, no issues.

It's a bit difficult to get used to the touch pad and the controls but once you get a grip of it. It will be an enjoyable experience.
Added in L4, L5, R4, R5 the CTRL, ALT, Zoom In (W), Zoom Out (E)
Settings to low and locked it on 40 FPS
quite small to read everything especially in the battle mode itself
The game sometimes will show you a message box that your graphics card is incompatible and you have to click yes. It's before the game lunches
It's not as enjoyable to play it on a big screen with mouse & keyboard but once you get used to it, you will enjoy your experience. Don't buy this game purely for steam deck.
Randomly showed the 4k fullscreen window on my 1440p screen a few times
The game would crash on startup until I changed vm.max_map_count to 2147483642 in sysctl as described here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/64855285/6660593
(Note that the value I used is not the same as the one on stack overflow, I used the one recommended by Fedora and SteamOS)
There is some camera stuttering which will drive you mad in multiplayer, where every second counts.
Camera stuttering

camera movement stuttered a bit, this did not happen at all on windows with the same machine
camera stuttered, does not at all with the same machine booted to windows 11

Game worked flawlessly on my system
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Scrolling over the map stutters from time to time
Without the start options, i only get a black window with my NVIDIA card. But with the start options, it worked. I also swapped my NVIDIA card with an AMD card and with that it works out of the box.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Didn't get it to run with proton, black box issue and crash. But with wine it eventually started with wine-8.4 (Staging) and launch options PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Input lag but doubt it's wine
Hope I'll get it working with proton soon with my setup

It shows a warning about graphics drivers being too old, but it can be ignored and the game will start without issue.
It is preferable to use an SSD for the game, as an HDD will make loading screens last for up to 3 minutes in some instances.
Doesn't start

I get a small black window, then it tries to enter fullscreen then crashes with a report window.
I tried a few of the launch parameters listed here, tried Proton-GE, Experimental and 7.0.2 without change.
Runs great ootb!
Works well after fixing dll
Incompatible GPU warning on setup, but can be ignored

Resolution can be weird at times. However that is likely due to the fact that I'm using tiling window manager which causes issues with games at times. Changing to exclusive full screen fixed the issue.
Multiplayer worked without any modifications. Did not have to apply the coh2 dll patch.
Game ran out of the box. I'm using proprietary NVIDIA drivers with wayland window manager (hyprland)
Some minor issues:
- game defaulted to lowest graphical settings, but ran well on higher settings as expected
- resolution can be wonky when you change it in game, but restarting game fixes it
